Adding inlays to my S320

I'm starting to get real pissed off at getting lost on the fretboard due to lack of inlays. What do you guys do to add inlays, do you go the whole hog and rout out a hole to stick a bit of abalone/pearl in or use a sticker or tipp-ex or something?

I've got an Ovation Adamas with no inlays and I never got lost.

I've got a custom guitar with crazy/non-traditional inlays on fretboard and I never get lost.

Use the dots on the side and don't pay attention to the fretboard.

The dots on the side don't suffice given I tend to look at my fingers and like a lot of people, I don't look at my fretboard at a 90 degree angle.

The dots on the side can suffice if you want them to.

I don't have my fretboard at a 90 angle either but I just look at the side dots and not the dots on the fretboard itself.

If you really want to get inlays on your fretboard, look on "that auction site" and you'll find sticker inlays for sale. If that won't work for you, contact Jaden on the boards here. He's a vendor that could probably do some inlay work for you but be forewarned that the money you invest in getting inlays on your guitar will not increase the value any if at all.

Think of this - if Ibanez can sell a guitar without inlays then some people are able to play without them. While you may not be one of those people, you won't know until you try and that means having a more positive attitude about it. If you think you don't need them then you won't need them.

Sticker inlays may be the best bet so when you become more acquainted with the fretboard, you can always remove them.

Sticker inlays for sure.

Some of them actually look pretty good.

I had to force myself not to look.... Just like typing i know how to do it but ialways look ... Only took me a few tryes to become familiar with the feel and layout of the frets... Its just a mater of forcing yourself to learn it and finding a trick that works for you... Me its just the feel of the frets and i know where i am

Re: Adding inlays to my S320

Thanks to those who answered my question.

I did intially think because of the side dots I'd be fine, but rather than 'getting used' to it, I'm finding it more problematic. I'd be in real trouble if I had to improvise a solo. It's more with the upper frets, mind.

I guess I'll have to mull over it.

Re: Adding inlays to my S320

Getting used to playing while standing and using side markers takes time. Sure, it sucks in the beginning but it doesn't make for a great performance leaning over your guitar to stare at your fingers the whole time-also, try sightreading something that way. If you can get used to doing basic exercises/patterns (scales/arps/chromatics) without looking down it will help alot. Did you give up on alternate/economy/sweet/whatever picking because it took some time to learn? If you don't work on your weaknesses they will remain exactly that.

That said, I've seen some really nice looking inlay stickers. There was a company doing vines/pyramids at one point, not sure if they're still around.
