Almost said goodbye to this 540R

My wife introduced me to a special diet called "you can't buy more guitars unless they're paid for by selling existing guitars". It's pretty sucky and I'm always hungry.

I got an Epiphone 1958 Korina Explorer (made in Jan, 1998, the first year for that model) for cheap and was going to sell little red here to fund the purchase and have some extra $ left over to throw at my credit card bill.

I've had a small ache for an Explorer for years and it turns out that I'm glad I didn't sell the Ibanez first. Ergonomically the Explorer is very weak. It's way neck heavy and even after doing all the magic at my disposal it just isn't a comfortable guitar to play. Also, I don't get a vibe of versatility from it. My Gibson V feels versatile; I put it on and feel ready to play anything. I put the explorer on and and feel "well, it looks pretty cool".

No offense to any Explorer or Destroyer fans out there. Just my little opinions.

I'm sure that little red is breathing easier.

Re: Almost said goodbye to this 540R

I'm at the "1 in, 1 (minimum) out" stage as well. I just bought something new on Saturday and had to promise that two guitars were going out the door to pay for it.

That would have been a shame to lose a really mint looking two humbucker Radius.

That one is actually my beater. Up close there are some annoying dings on the front. Maybe this week I'll get around to leveling some of them with super glue.

Re: Almost said goodbye to this 540R

I bought a used epiphone goth explorer and then a coffin xtreme case for it a little over a year ago, didnt like it either, I could not get use to playing it with the body raised up where you would rest your hand while playing. So I sold it but now still have this huge empty XL coffin case in my closet

although I am a self- proclaimed "Explorer Junkie", I don't take offense. I wouldn't have traded that for an Epi Explorer either

Re: Almost said goodbye to this 540R

I built a custom explorer a few years back. Everything about it was high quality and I built it how I wanted it after playing a few explorers. Build costs where on par with a Custom 59' Les Paul replica. I choose to go with the "Pro" style body which is basically a 10% reduction in the original Explorer body size which I felt made it a bit more comfortable a managable. The guitar is great, plays and sounds excellent, but I just don't get along with the feel, so I doesn't get played much. Considered selling it but it is one of my best works and the top and color is amazing so I have had a hard time letting it go. It was designed to look like a sunset I witnessed on the California Coast and I did get close to that but it looks more like burning embers on a dark night.

And, sorry. Love the R! I plays Sabers and that is one of the reasons the Explorer sits.
