Any fellow RGD owners with Intonation issues?!
Hey guys.
I have an Ibanez RGD320Z with the new trem.
So far I really like the guitar, but with one complaint... The intonation adjustments are maxed out, and I cannot get the thing to intonate nicely.
First things first, I am using a set of Elixir 10-52's and I am tuning to open C (CGCcge)
I have adjusted the springs on the trem so that it is resting perfectly flat in it's seating. However the upper saddles are maxed out to the forward on the high E and C strings, and it's STILL a few cents flat. The string tension should be ok for this gauge at the 26.5' scale. Is this what appears to be a limitation of this scale, or do I need to go about things different?
Im pretty frustrated, and I am not sure how much of a difference other strings will make. Anyone else have issues with this scale length?!? Or am I SOL?
Thanks for any help.

I don't know for sure but there may be a second hole for the intonation screw to help extend the range for you. I'm sure somebody else here will know for sure and chime in.

Re: Any fellow RGD owners with Intonation issues?!
Sorry, I should have mentioned I am in the furthest screw hole to the front, and I have also tried another string (a D'addario .11 on the High E just to make sure it wasnt a bad string on the one)
I was moreso curious if this is a fundamental issue with these guitars. Im quite perplexed, I have a prestige 2620 and it intonates just fine at open C, but this guitar just doesnt like that tuning :/

It could just be your picking hand. Could be hitting the open string too hard when tuning, then hitting the fretted note softer causing it to SEEM flat when it's actually the open string. It would definitely make sense. Hitting the open string too hard would make it go sharp. So naturally, you would tune it flat. Then you hit the fretted note to check the intonation and it is flat with the rest of the string.

Re: Any fellow RGD owners with Intonation issues?!
Thanks for the tips, but thats definately not it, I have setup my share of guitars after owning 40+ and Im not pro, but I am fairly decent.
Ive tried some different gauges, but it JUST doesnt like to intonate at the regular "e" on the high string....
Stll working on it though. I quite like this new trem, it's easy to work with!

How high are your pickups? A friend brought me his SV because he could not intonate it. He had tried diff strings and same issue. He had the pickups WAY to close to the strings and somehow that was throwing off his intonation. I lowered the pickups to normal range and it was fine then.

Found the problem. Would you believe the 12th fret is the issue. :s It was a new guitar I bought from Long and Mcquade. Im going to take it back, and ask for another. I like the guitar, it has great potential!

Future reference, try intonating on the 24th instead of the 12th. Two whole octaves of being in tune

I feel your problem could lie here.
