Best selling Ibanez model?

I just had a random thought while putting some clothes in the washing machine...

What is the best selling Ibanez ever? I'd say RG550, or maybe something like the RG350.

Any thoughts?

Re: Best selling Ibanez model?

I think the best selling and most sought after are very different guitars. I'm sure Ibanez sells tons of their low-end models compared to their high-end models.

Re: Best selling Ibanez model?

I'd say it's the JEM7VWH just because of the fact that it's one of(if not THE) the longest running Ibanez models.

Re: Best selling Ibanez model?

I'd probably say the RG350's as well. I don't care how long the JEM has been around, there are a lot more mom and dad's buying there kids guitars than there are JEM buyers.

Re: Best selling Ibanez model?

the jem is also many times more expensive than lower-end models. combine that with the fact that there are probably a lot more beginning guitarists than people who would be interested in (and be able to afford) a jem, and the lifespan of the jem becomes insignificant.

having said that, i really don't know. probably some lower model. maybe the ones from the jumpstart packages.

edit: left the reply window open for a while and everyone said what i did! though i'm not sure about the 350..

Go to a highschool BotB (or dont ) and I pretty much guarantee you'll see a 350DX.

But my thought is that the 80's saw a large spike in guitar sales, w/ emphasis on shredder guitars, like for say, Ibanez.

Methinks it's RG350DX vs. RG5** imo.

I see way more 470's than 350's, and I've owned about ten 470's and only about two 350's. I think 470's are most common

The 7VWH has no way been running as long as the RG550, now renamed and re designed to 2550.

So I'd say RG550 probably is the best selling as it has become a bit of a yard stick which has been bought by anyone, from home playing amatures right up to signed bands with enough money to buy what they want.

Re: Best selling Ibanez model?

Sales of the Hoshino-group companies can be found here:

http://www.hoshinogakki.co.jp/hoshin.../profiles.html

No details on individual models but IIRC the Ibanez book says the current bestseller is (one of) the cheapest model(s) : the GAX.

It is very likely that the best selling RG type is in fact the GRX, it wouldn't surprise me if a single cheap model outsold the entire Japanse-built line-up (RG+Jem+JS, etc.)

I would guess the GAX has so far outsold any RG model, even if you combined RG550 and RG2550 sales.
