Better shred guitar

Hi everybody, I'm new here

I was wondering what would be the better "shred" guitar. i'm pretty good at guitar but i dont know alot about the specs. i want to be able to shred like jason becker, and ygwie malmsteen and i was wondering if you could tell me which guitar would be more suitable for fast playing and would hey good pickups for shredding and have high enough gain so i can play cruchy rythms. i know the amp matters and alot of other stuff matter too but i 'm focusing on the guitar right now. I need all your guys help and all coments are welcome!

which is better for shred like with the tone of jason becker:

Fender american fat strat
Ibanez RG570
ESP M-1000
Jackson SL3
Squire strat (hehe)

Those are the guitars i was looking at. i dont really have any dealers who carry those guitars so i really need help. and are the ibanez rgs made in korea? and is it even possible to shred on the squire strat cuz i was just thinking about buying that as a extra downtuning guitar. plz help

First of all, no guitar will make you shred like anyone, that is all practice, all guitars are suitable for fast playing if you like the guitar. I can play just as fast on a Strat, Ibanez, or gibson, I just prefer my Ibanez's.

Well, tone wise, I don't know, Becker was a strat and carvin guy I think mostly, Personally, my vote goes for the Ibanez, the RG570 is Japanese made. Tone, well, you can easily swap pickups in almost any guitar, so, you can experiment anyway, but again, as you said, the amp makes a huge difference too.

Sure, why not, it's still a guitar, if you like it, and are comfortable, you can shred on anything. Just depends on if you like it or not.

I'm sure most people here will tell you the Ibanez, as it's primarily an Ibanez forum

better shred guitar

Welcome newcomer. To recomend a shred guitar isn't that easy, it's all down to playing ability and what you feel is most comfortable. Most of us here will recomend any Ibanez 5** series upward they all have real thin necks great for getting to those hard to reach places, which model? it's really up to what you like(an RG550 would be the standard recomendation), but then Malmsteen played a strat and the necks are as thick as tree trunks.ESP are great too but don't go for the cheaper LTD range.Any help? I'd say try em all out and come to your own conclusions.

Thanks

Oh man, thank you guys alot! I'm really want the Ibanez RG570, but I don't really likethat is has that plate on the neck. my old guitar had that and it always bothered me. and isnt the ibanez rg570 one of the korean import models? i hear those are poorly made. and hey, are there any other ibanez models that are better than the rg570? i was looking at getting a presitge but down here there all around 1,000$ and i can only spend up to 700dollars. but guys, i was wondering what should i do because i havent been playing guitar for about 5months now. before i was pretty good, like i could play some Kirk hammett solos from metallica like the fourhorsemen, fade to black, and alot of others. but now since i havent played for 5months because my guitar was stolen, i lost all my skill basically. so i was wondering if i should just get the ibanez or get a squire strat and like start fresh again. i dont know what i should do, but thanks a lot littlegreenmen and D

Although I'm not sure what year Ibanez switched, any 570's of recent years should have the all-access neck joint instead of the neck plate.

Also, as a rule of thumb, anything with a model number higher than 500 is made in Japan, anything below, Korea or elsewhere. So the 570 would be made in Japan, and is a top notch guitar.

Well, I'm a big fan of the Prestige guitars. If you look around you may be able to find a used prestige (the RG3120 kicks all a$$) or even a Jem for $700.

Even if you are a bit out of practice i'd still go for the Ibanez, it is probably an early 90's model if it has the neck plate but remember that it is an angled joint unlike at strat.Personally I prefer the older Ibanezez(just seem to be made better), and you're fingers will soon be back in shape.
ps, If youre really lucky it may have a lo-pro Edge as 5** series around 93-94ish all came with these as standard(well I'm pretty sure anyway)I believe the 450 had the Edge at this time Before the lo-trs bridge came out.

Oh yeah... if you're ordering it new, it will definately come with the all-access neck joint instead of the old-style neck joint!

If you are into Jason Becker I hear that Jackson is coming out with a J.B. model real soon. That might be out of your price range though.

That JB model has been in the works for a loooong time. I conversed with Jason almost 2 years ago about making a custom JB model, and he said it was in the works back then. I hope it comes out soon.

For a shred guitar...PGM ;-)

Hello Kirk

every guitar is a shred guitar, if you play it to be one. on a certain day, all my guitars are shred guitars, on another, my gibson & fender are jazz guitars, then come the following week, they are all instruments of chaos... hope you get the picture...

ditto. i'm sure Steve Vai sounds the same on Evo as he does on a RG1XX; it's the player, not the guitar.

I saw Steve at a local "Meet And Greet" several years ago. He did a little jam session with a couple of locals. He played on a "no-name" guitar off the wall...sounded like Steve ;-)

Thanks

thanks you guys. i was going to ask one more question. when i had my bc rich warlock nj (eh) my fingers were way to big on the frets, like when i use to play of the higher frets like 15 and up, my fingers were like to big for the frets . so i was wondering does that mean i need bigger frets like jumbo, or does that mean i need smaller like medium jumbo. thx

that doesn't really mean bigger or smaller frets. fret size is really a matter of personal choice and not finger size. just go with whatever you feel comfortable. i suggest you go try different guitars at a guitar store to figure out what you like.
