Bubinga models???

im looking at buying an RG series(model unknown)-(has the good trem and H-S-H pickups)-it has the Bubinga strip on the back of the neck.was this ONLY used on the wizard 1 necks?? or did they also use it on wizard 2 necks?
if this helps--the body has the very rounded/angled neck joint

The guitar your referring to is most *likely* an rg570, but no way to tell for sure, what color is it? THe bubinga strip pops up in odd places so im not privy to comment on that I guess

Yes - you can have a Wizard 1 with the AANJ. Wasn't the bubinga-striped Wizard called the "SuperWizard" or something like that? Check out the "necks" section of this site. I agree - it's probably a newer 570. Is the back of the body routed for the input jack cavity (does it have two back plates or three)? Can you post a pic?

It's pretty much got to be a 570. The "lower" series will only have two back plates. On those the input jack is screwed onto the body with a mounting plate, and there's no route for access on the back of the body.

I had a S520 that did have the bubinga stripe (2002 model). The bubinga stripe is typical for the super-wizard neck, so the guitar is from 1999 or newer. You should be able to get the age from the serial.

Older 5-series (with the original wizard 1) didn't have the bubinga stripe.

Most of hte time, and there are all kinds of quirks and exceptions, as evidenced here, but most of the the bubinga is in a Wizard, and the Wizard II is 3 piece maple. At least in my experience.

But Ibanez is weird, the Wizard II in Japan has a larger radius than a Wizard II here, for instance.

Weird....

Also, I dont remember any "dark maroon" '570's...

It can be that it's a prototype Superwizard, between 1998 and 1999 they changed the neck on the 5-series.
For instance: The PGM90HAM is also from 1998, the neck is said to be a Wizard 1 but it has the bubinga stripe as well

I don't completly agree with the 1999 and newer theory. I have a 1996 517 Blue Sparkle and it has the Bubinga stripe.
