Changing pick-ups on a RG550.

I'm after warm tones with plenty of sustain. Able to produce good distortion, but serious thrash/nu-metal sounds not really wanted.

Warmth and sustain are most important to me.

Currently got stock pickups in H-S-H configuration. Might change them all, but not necessarily.

Any suggestions for a good combination?

Thank you.

Hey richardgs,
i have a rg550 and i have the following:
bridge - SD distortion
neck - SD screamin demon.

This combo works/sounds great to me; good heavy rhythm with the bridge, and a nice lead tone from the neck pu. I've also tried a dimarzio fred in the neck and it sounded great as well. (will put it the neck position of my next guitar).

hope this helps

I have a 1990 RG 550 and for years had a PAF Pro in the neck, and a Super Distortion in the bridge. Single coil was from an American Standard Strat, I believe a 1988 model.

Good sound with those, very happy for a long time.

I now have a set of Evolutions and an HS-2 wired for single coil in the middle and it's very sweet.

Smooth distortion, sweet when clean, nice "honk" from the single coil and split humbuckers, and it almost feels like it plays itself those Evos are so responsive.

Thank you for the replies folks.

I'll keep this thread saved in "favourites" for later use - need to check availability locally of the various suggestions....

Much appreciated
