Chibanez autopsy thing.

So i was bored for about ten mintues. so i thought id take apart my Chibanez Jem and see what made it so bad. im including pics so enjoy.

Here is a picture of the body with the pickgaurd removed and the pups have been taken off the gaurd but since i dont have a soldering iron i cant remove them yet:

Next i wanted to see the inner workings of a chibanez humbucker from china:

i unscrew the back and what do i see. a slab of some black thing. which in fact is a magnet. now ive never taken apart a pup. is that what it looks like? a magnet and the poles touching the magnet? look for yourself:

Now onto the Single coil. Looks normal with the cover on:

how bout with it off:

wait, whats on the bottom? is that a magnet ?

Oh and one more pic. is this how a guitar is supposed to look without pups and a gaurd??just a rectangle cut out of the body. see?

ps. yes if you notice that you see red and white stripes on the bridge on the last picture. its from my american flag in my room.

Re: Chibanez autopsy thing.

Well they didn't even spray your cavity with the black conductive shielding paint. Those pick-ups are cheap, but in normal circumstances, if you know little about pick ups and have never opened one, it is best to leave that to the pro's. The inside seems fine, but that looks like a typical cheap humbucker.

Why do you own this guitar? Were you duped on e bay ? or you just wanted a chibanez

Re: Chibanez autopsy thing.

As long as your neck isn't warped you might have a pretty good sounding guitar on your hands if you switch out those pups for something else.

About the pups, yes, that's how they are built. They're nothing much magnets, poles and wire wrapped around them. Different gauge wire and the amount of times you wrap around is what changes the tone of a pickup. There's alittle more to it, but that's basically what they are.

This thread is akin to the alien autopsy video I remember seeing on FOX. LOL

Thanks for the thread, this is actually pretty interesting. I love that super high quality logo on the headstock, especially how the lines stop half a mile short of "Ibanez"

This is an interesting thread. To be honest, the guitar doesn't look that bad to me from the pics. How does it play and sound?

Re: Chibanez autopsy thing.

well, the action on it was about an inch high at the 7th fret. no joke. that neck was so warped. i got scammed. frets sucked, neck felt weird. i think the body on the Chi is plywood. its not even light. its hella heavy.

im actually thinking of someday fixing up the guitar. you know : New pups, neck, bridge, paint job, etc. and im probably going to get the monkey grip filled with some wood so it doesnt looke like a chibanz any more..
it might just turn out playing good too if i get good parts.

Umm ... not to rain on your parade, but why would you do that? From your own description, the only remaining part would be the body. A plywood body with hacked out swimming pool route and probably a crap neck route, that probably needs a lot of mods to fit the new parts, just isn't worth the time, money, or effort. Spend a few more bucks on a new body while buying parts (or make one) and you will have a much superior end product.
