Considering a 1998 RG570JG and some Q's
Well I finally found a decent local deal on a '98 RG570 in Juniper Green. Plays real nice now that I'vve set the trem angle and lowered the bridge. I don't know that I can come to terms with the current owner; I hope so. It's pretty dinged up but the neck and fingerboard are in great shape; almost no fret wear.
Let me know what you think. Also, take a look at the pic of the
trem claw
. Is it normal for the claw to be this 'tight' with 3 springs and 10's?
Trem claw - is it normal to be this tight with 3 springs and 10's?
I think the bridge height and trem angle are good
It's pretty dinged up, and someone installed oversize eye hooks for strap buttons!

Hi Jeff. Yes, that's normal. There's quite a bit of pull on the trem using 10's, and short of using 4 springs it'll always look that tight when the bridge is parallel / balanced. With 9's there's about a quarter of an inch or so between the claw and the edge of the cavity.

Hey, man...thanks!
If I take this guitar, it'll be my first Ibanez AND my first Floyd guitar.

AND you will never turn back
! The eye loops could be fixed easily, but I can't imagine who would think that was a good idea...

The trem is not set up right. you will need to releve some of the tension on th springs. you should look in the tech section of the main jemsite page. it has a few diagrams and detailed set up instructions for the
edge trem
.

Speedy's correct. If you're keeping 10's on it, slacken the
claw screws
a little and retune. It needs to come forward just a tiny amount. It is very close to level, though, you can see it clearly by looking at the side -- there's a line to help you level it, and it's almost straight.

To me it looks just the opposite. The bridge is in fact almost right, but it looks to me that the springs need a tad more tension...I thought the base of the bridge was what needs to be level? Also, it's cool that someone had enough sense to slap an Edge in there!

Re: Considering a 1998 RG570JG and some Q's
The 570 always came with an Edge.
Look -- see this part where I circled? This is the line that needs to be parallel with the body. Adding more tension to the springs will bring the bridge too far back, which is of course incorrect. This claw needs it's screws backing off just a fraction, literally just a quarter of a turn or something. You are thinking the top part needs to be parallel? Nope, it's supposed to be angled. See bottom pic.

ahhh...I see...lining it up with the blade...thanks Dee....But, on the bridge...that is an original Edge that they didn't use in 1998.

They did use the Edge in 1998. Here's a page from the 1998 catalog:

Re: Considering a 1998 RG570JG and some Q's
In '92-'93 the 570s had lo-
pro edge trems
. they went back to the original edge for some reason around 1995 or 1996.
on a side note, I love the rg570, i like it better than my Jems.

You must have a great 570 there, speedy. What is it you prefer, the Wizard neck?

Re: Considering a 1998 RG570JG and some Q's
I think I like the fact that I can play the heck out of it. I am not worried about dinging it, or breaking the neck. I do however like the wizard profile allot. I can play anything from jazz to blues to metal. it is a great axe. The price is also way cheaper, and is pretty much the same guitar.
