All these extra strings and extreme dropped tuning is getting silly. Just get a six string bass, play it like a guitar and be done with it!

This is getting too stupid. A 7-string tuned down to A is as far as it should go.
F#? Oh, please! That's only 1 whole tone above a standard bass guitar tuning!!!

you guys are forgetting that the bass has no unwound strings... an 8-string covers a wider range that any guitar and bass.

Joe Perry actually does that for a couple of songs. However, you can't really expect guitarists to keep up with everything like that, particularly things developed by well known guitarists over thirty years ago. That's crazy talk.

Meshuggah are brilliant, they do some amazing stuff with their 8 string guitars. Can't see the video at work, but the idea of an 8 string Iceman extended scale and everything is very cool.

I don't see any reason it's silly or absurd. It's just different, and it's expanding the range of guitars. I've played that low on a 27" scale, but it really just wasn't for me. But I think what they do is awesome and innovative.
