Does Cort Make Ibanez?

Out in the middle of hicksville,, a gtr shop owner told me that Cort is building gtrs for Ibanez. He goes on this rant often,,,, apparently he was burned by Ibanez and has nothing good to say about them. I have kept quiet about it,, not provoking any further discussion with him. His shop is one of those places you go into every once in awhile then leave pissed, confused or just wondering why the hell you went in the again anyway.

So is there any truth to Cort building for Ibanez? If so what level?

A lot of Ibanez' Korean stuff was being made by Cort. (the serial numbers starting with a "C"). I seem to recall hearing that the Cort factory was no longer called the Cort factory (it was either Cort or Samick, but I think it was Cort). Something about it being nationalized by the Korean government I think. Regardless, they've been pumping out some pretty nice instruments in the last couple of years.

Right on thanks man. I like the Cort stuff for the most part,, they have some really nice Bass's as well.

I just wasn't sure if this dude was blowing smoke up me arse or something.

Cort = Korea if C is in the serial#

That's right. On a Korean Ibanez C means it came from the Cort factory and S means the Samick factory.

same hear this music store sells crap, overpriced ( $600 for a $400 mexistrat) NO ibanez, just BC rich, gibson and fender and a few trade ins and cheap-o brands. they have nice marshalls tho!( expensive). and to top it off the owners the biggest ass hole on the planet.

C in the Ibanez Serial number can also stand for China. Some companies have made coppies and sold them with a Ibanez headstock. Theese guitars are not Ibanez made and are made cheap in China.

Cort make mush of the lower end Ibanez guitars, although not the super cheap Gios, which are made in Malaysia. All the high end Ibanez guitars are made in Japan.

Wrong! Those Chibanez Jems and RGs are made in China, but that C in front of the serial number was "stolen" from the Korean Cort factory-made Jem 555s, hence the C. The C does not stand for China. Nice necro-bump, too...
