Dying a fretboard


Hi have a ibanez with a failry dark rosewood fretboard. However i want to get it darker...something like this



has anyone ever dyed a fretboard before? i want to do it but im scared it wont work or will look rubbish or even will come off on my fingers when i play and i really dont want that to happen.

There's info on dyeing fretboards on projectguitar.com

I'm about to undertake darkening mine (on an S520ex). I'll be using oil based leather dye (it's exactly the same thing that Stewmac sell:

Yeah, apparently its not too difficult to do either.

I have been wanting to do it to my RG421 for ages now, but just haven't had the guts to go straight for it. I have a crappy old squire strat neck that I could test it on first though if I wanted.

I will be interested to see your results necrophonic.

I have just always questioned the durability of the finish.
