EMG 81TW-will it fit bridge position in Ibanez RG550?

Hi!

I've recently ordered an EMG 81TW pickup and I can't get one thing out of my head. Will it fit bridge position in my Ibanez RG550EX(2001 year, w/pickguard)? I've heard that some people were having some problems and needed to make the hole deeper because it's relatively shallow... I don't really have a possibility to check out how deep it is because I'm away and I'll be at home in July, 25.
Cheers from Poland!

(and sorry if my English is bad)

Should be fine considering its best to keep EMG's quite close to the strings. EMG's Aren't that deep so you should relly have no major issues.

It should fit. Why do you want one?

Should be able to fit one just fine, and don't worry about the people who ask why you would want one.

Because I like them. That's all

edit:I received an e-mail from RG550 Reissue user, who has 81TW+89 set in his guitar. He told me that he needed to make the cavity deeper(about 1/8 inch)using a dremel. I only have a simple chisel in my basement, I guess, so that's no good. I'm still praying for 2001's RG550 having deeper cavity than a Reissue

Re: EMG 81TW-will it fit bridge position in Ibanez RG550?

I had a set of EMGs in a 92 RG550 for a short time until I came to my senses and installed some DiMarzios. I have no issue with active pickups in the right application, but it just seemed too wrong in a 550.

Anyway, the point is that I had no trouble the pickups fitting. Of course, a 92 versus an 01 might be no more help than a reissue versus the 01, who knows.

Re: EMG 81TW-will it fit bridge position in Ibanez RG550?

The EMG81TW is more THICKER (because of the two internal preamps) than compared to the regular EMG81, which can make the EMG81TW more difficult to fit into some guitars without modifications.

I used EMG81s in the bridgepositions on two of my guitars for recording my band Cryonic Temple's last album Immortal, in both my RG560L and RG470L (1993 model) as well as for the tour.

However Im putting the EMG81TW into my RGs because I need the singlecoil in it since I use clean and really like position 2 & 4 (stratstyle).
I know that some people because of lack of depth in the pickupholes has to remove a couple of milimeters of wood to be able to fit the EMG81TW into the RG.

Re: EMG 81TW-will it fit bridge position in Ibanez RG550?

Well, there is a difference in the depth of the pickup-routings in Rg500series depending on which year they were done.
My Rg560L and RG470L both fit a regular EMG81, but the RG81TW will not fit without some modifications.

Im comparing these depths with the depths in a Rg1570 (2007) & a Rg550 (1997) and both also differs slightly in the depths this to see if they will fit an EMG81TW without any woodworkmodifications. (These guitars are not mine but I will help out solder EMG81Tw -EMG SA- EMG 89 into them).
