I just bought a pawn shop RG560, and it had two-tone hardware on it. Obviously not original, but I'm not sure where it came from. The tuning machines are black on the back side of the headstock, and the knobs are black, but the post that goes through the headstock (that the strings go through) and the ferrules that screw onto the tuning machines through the headstock were gold. I took the machines off the headstock, and the whole thing's black except for the top 1/4" of the string post, and it's
plated, not painted.
Can the post be swapped between tuning machines, so you'd have a gold post on a black base/knob? I've never tried to remove the post, and I hate to jack up a perfectl good machine. Anybody seen factory hardware configured this way, or is it a hack job all the way?
FYI, the black
Edge trem had the black saddles replaced with gold ones as well. Fortunately, I had a donor beater RG570 with really nice black hardware - I swapped it out and now the 560 looks new. But now I'm not sure what to do with my pimpin' two-tone hardware!
