Fair price for a 540PII?

Its refinished to Matt black, pickups are DiMarzio Tonezone / DiMarzio Paf Pro
original knob switched. It has two humbuckers and 24 fretted.
What would be a fair price? Buying it for 800 a good idea?

Re: Fair price for a 540PII?

I Paid $925 for mine and just saw a yellow one for $1025, so $800 is a good deal, even if it is refinished...but most people don't know the real gem on that guitar was the Ibanez USA F3 pickup, it slams a tone zone.
I'd still get it, the neck is like nothing else I have.

Re: Fair price for a 540PII?

Back in 89 the last time I played one I remarked how killer that F3 pickup was. I know on Dimarzios site they say it is basically a Super III. While I love the Super III I still remembered the F3 being more of a high gain shredder kind of pickup. That may be all in my mind now and the 540P II I did buy last year oddly enough had a Duncan Distortion replacing the F3 pickup I was seeking.

24 frets? I thought they were only made in 22 (except for non-ibanez customs). I could be wrong. And I thought they went for around $400-500. At least, that's what I was looking at when I was considering one around 2000 or 2001.

Re: Fair price for a 540PII?

That's exactly the same model I just recently sold... 24 frets, H-H and it was all orginal. It went for 667€ inc. shipping. It was a killer axe, though. Neck is thin, but wide and I really liked it! Couldn't just keep it, because N4 Padauk came in...

Enligt min mening 5000 svenska kronor låter bra, eftersom det är omlackat (eller nåt sådant ), kanske 5150 med de nyare/bättre mickar...

I don't really like the pickguard models, I have had 2 black ones and I kept the yellow, but they were all 22 fret non pickguard HH's. Still it has the 540P neck and is an amazing guitar.

Re: Fair price for a 540PII?

those are great guitars, but the matte black is definitely a downgrade from the original finish. back in the day (about 4 or 5 years ago), it was common to see these go for about $400 - $500, but in the last couple of years the resale value has risen considerably for some reason. $800 is probably a decent price, but i'd get that thing repainted to restore it's former glory.
