finally found a Keeper ... My Ibanez tale (mini review)

Im relatively young, but have been playing the guitar since I was around 17. I am currently 23 and have owned a few guitars.

The timeline.... Fender Mexi Strat >>> Epi LEs Paul >>>> Ibanez RG320QS >>>> Peavey Wolfgang USA Standard >>>>> JAckson Soloist SL2H >>>>> Ibanez RG421 >>>>>> Kramer Baretta, and my new current guitar......

The Ibanez RG620x...

I bought if off a member on the board (Dave Rottenberger) and he shipped it off to me in Canada for a few bucks.

Most people see that ive owned a few nicer guitars, such as the Peavey and the JAckson Soloist. I bought the Jackson, and I loved it, but for what I paid, I just felt that I could spend that money elsewhere and have a decent instrument to play. It cost me 1500$, compared to the Ibanez which was around 700$ (cdn)

I HATED the painted neck on the Jackson. I loved the Wolfgang(traded it for the Jackson) but I didnt like the upper fret access and it only had 22 frets. I found it hard to play higher up on the neck.

On my Kramer I had a Piezo installed, and it soudned great, so I found that Piezo's are EXCELLENT features and I will never buy a guitar again without one on! (midi is next )

So I decided to buy another Ibanez, and im VERY happy that I did. For the first time in 5 years I havent been saying "I want a new guitar" I havent had gas lately. Ever since I got this and my PodXT I have been more then happy and content.

The Ibanez playes really nice. The Wizard neck takes time to get used to, but once your comfy on it, its a great neck. Its not cramped and I find that attempting string skips, tapping, and sweep arpeggios are fairly pleasant.

IN MY OPINION, the Edge Tremolo is BETTER then the original Floyd Rose. I love the lower profile and the style and feel. Id love to try the new Edge Pro.

The piezo sounds great. You need to run it with a little delay and chorus and she really sings. The acoustic amps on the PODxt along with effects make it sound GREAT!

I replaced the bridge pup with a PAF PRO and I really like the sound. Very balanced and great for cleans. Has more then enough bite for my distortion needs.

Im not too gung ho on theblack finish, but it still looks fine and suits me. I would love to get a tobacco burst style finish put on the body and headstock.

The guitar stays in tune great for me. I blocked the tremolo (still can do dives, just cant pull back, never cared for that in my playing anyhow) Once the strings are stretched and good, it sounds great.

So thats pretty much it. Ive owned more expensive guitars, and more prestigious ones. But this one has been the funnest to play. Neckthru construction has nothing against this with the AANJ, I have effortless playing up to the 24th fret on this guitar. Sounds good, stays in tune, plays nice and smooth, great feeling neck, and nice LARGE frets that are a joy to play on.

I highly recommend this guitar to anyone who wants a Piezo equipped guitar (very versatile). They can be had for good prices used, or else pick up the new 1620x issue from Ibanez.

I dont have GAS, but I know my next guitar purchase will be the 1620X guitar which is basically the same thing except with the new tremolo and the directly mounted pups. I can wait though, maybe i'll even get the higher model

Thanks for reading, another happy customer!

I agree, the 620X is great. I found the piezo to sound a bit better on that one vs. the S2020x...not sure why, it just seemed to sound more natural.
