Gibson custom shop

Anyone have a link to a custom shop online for gibsons??

I want to have one with electronics installed, an effects switch, a killswitch and lights for the fretboard.

Re: Gibson custom shop

Good luck. Like Ibanez, they don't have a custom shop tailored to the general public. The closest thing is Gibson's Custom direct, but membership is limited to like a 100 people. Last time I checked, it was already filled. Maybe I've been reading in the wrong places, though .

Re: Gibson custom shop

Maybe you could get a custom builder to make you something totally unique. If you find the right builder it will be every bit as good as a custom shop Gibson.

^With the consistency of today's Gibsons, there's an 85% chance it will be better.

Unfortunately, Rainer is no longer making the LP-shaped Dragonfly - he's working on his own re-design, though.

Yes of course. It happened right after the Musikmesse this year, when Rainer got mail from Gibson's lawyers. He instantly took the original Dragonfly from the market. So much for the bad news.

But there will be a Phoenix rising from the ashes, because the line won't drop. The new Dragonfly will still be a great mahogany/maple guitar with a carved top, but with an all-new silhouette and some construction and shaping details that will make it an outstanding design.

When I went by the booth at the Musikmesse. I thought this is a lwawsuit waiting to happen and since Gibson lost against PRS now...

Rainer didn't want to play with fortune. The Gibson-versus-Dragonfly issue was a different thing than the PRS lawsuit, since the PRS singlecut isn't such an exact LP copy as the Dragonfly I. Also, he decided to come up with original ideas. Adapting, optimizing, improving; rather than just copying.

A Custom Shop Gibson is a very good instrument indeed. Gibson makes a lot of very expensive instruments, and unfortunately the cheap ones suffer. But Gibson isn't simply banging out crap.
