The Ibanez headstock looks pretty good with just a cleanly cut oval and no cover. I just made one like that with a
flame maple headstock veneer. Just a long oval starting about 1/4" past the nut, and just long enough for whatever kind of wrench. Mine is narrow because it requires an
allen wrench, not the big open pipe-style wrench, but even a bigger one, when cut cleanly can look really nice. Also mine has a "U" shaped bottom, not a flat squared off one, and I think that looks nicer, too. I thought there were some J-customs done like that but I could be mistaken.
