Re: help indentify this guitar

hey i've got the same exact guitar myself, i was going to ask for ID too one of these days. i have no clue what it is but i can confirm it's NO a modded guitar, and the only fitting trems are those with Floyd shape and dimensions (small plate, not à la TRS). the trem route is factory made, as well as the 22-frets neck and neck joint. no idea...

Re: help indentify this guitar

There are historically several TRS versions. TRS101, Lo-TRS, Lo-TRS II. There's even an ILT bridge but I don't know which one is which anymore with regards to years.

Funny thing with your body is that the trem route is square (not slanted) which implies a non-TRS bridge, as most TRS bridges were slanted. Does the neck look stock? Maybe it is as Lefty Robb said, a 350 with a 140 neck. Don't know how that would affect intonation.

Just for my curiosity, why do you need the exact model? Is it so you can get parts?

definitely. everything looks (i'd dare say "is") stock, no mods in there. and yes, the trem route allows OFR-shaped trems only, not TRS alike.

Very strange indeed. Strange that we can't seem to identify them, but stranger even that there are two of you with the same guitar.

Re: help indentify this guitar

My guess is a old 350 from when they came with the Lo-TRS2, an aftermarket pickguard, and a neck from another model.
Cheers!

cool mom
yea it's not a cheapo. Schaller tuners and trem on what seems to be Japan-made parts. nice pots but cheap pickups though.

You got me stumped, my friend. I have no clue, and I've studied Nuno's mystery RG pics before. I can barely make a (probably inaccurate) guess, but maybe it's a guitar that somehow got leaked out before the RG550 entered full production and before they settled on the specifications as we know them. They certainly wouldn't have made anything like this after the 550 was created. Could it be from around 1985 before the Edge trem was invented? I can't think of a reason why they would use the Floyd Rose II rather than the Edge.

Re: help indentify this guitar

It's certainly a rare one. I'm really curious to know about this now. I wonder if it's worth emailing Jim Donahue or someone?

Re: help indentify this guitar

Time to go to Jim Donohue I think. I've been looking at catalog scans for the better part of the day looking for that body (let alone that guitar). I cannot find it.

Obsessive disorder...
