In 1997 I still had my first electric that I got in 1989. I was initially going to upgrade the pickups in it and had actually bought some from Guitar Center in Arlington Hts. Then I was down in the old Clark St store (which no longer exists) and they had a few silver flake RG517's on clearance for $330. I put one on hold but had to go back to the other store to return the pickups I'd bought. While there, I overheard someone talking about the '96 USRG30 that they'd had sitting on the rack for a year and how they'd let it go for $500 just to be rid of it. Needless to say I canceled the hold on the 517 and went home with the USRG.

The point is that I believe that the silver flake 517's were not a current model. There's one on eBay and the seller says that it was a 1996 Summer NAMM model. That guitar definitely has a Super Wizard on it, which wasn't a regular thing until 1997. But yeah, I think the OP's guitar is just a regular '97 model 570.

And you're from Philadelphia so I'm going to assume that you're the guy who has the silver flake guitar on eBay and Philla CL. Can you fill us in on the back story of the guitar?

Nope. I bought mine off the guy who posted that a month or so back, and he had little to share other than it was a RG517. I haven't checked the serial number, just been playing the sh#t out of it non-stop.

Ah cool, congrats. I took a long look at that thing. I've had a soft spot for those silver sparkle 517's ever since I passed one over 18 years ago.

If you get a minute, check the serial number on the back of the headstock. It should either start with F6 or F97.

Re: Help me identifying this sparkling blue RG

My serial # = F615XXX. Pretty stoked on it, and one of these days I'll track down a green and blue. It's a shame they didn't make a gold flake.
