Question

Help me identifying this sparkling blue RG

According to the owner, it's a 1996 model. The pickups have been changed to DiMarzio Air Norton and Parallel Axis.

What RG is this? Does it look original (apart from the pickups)? What are the specs for this babe?

Thanks for the info guys.

What's the super wizard compared to the 7VWH neck (which is the one I know well)?

Re: Help me identifying this sparkling blue RG

I think these were pretty widely available in the US. I believe it was a summer release. Guitar Center had a silver flake version. Almost bought one of those as my first "real" guitar summer of 1997. GC was trying to get rid of them at $330.

Actually this probably is an EU guitar based on the CE sticker.

Specs wise they are the same. Not really sure why they put a different number on them.

I think it depends on the year of production. I actually think that this blue guitar is a 570. The blue and green sparkle RG570 was a regular catalog guitar in the US in 1997.

I personally only refer to the silver sparkle as a 517.

In general, the 517 nomenclature only makes sense in the EU market. In 1992 the 550 and 570 switched to the Lo-Pro Edge trem (all markets). At that time a 470 would have an Edge and would be MIJ. 400 Series switched to MIK in 1994.

So in 1996, they came out with the in between 505 and 507 models in the EU. These had Edge trems and Wizard II necks. The 517 would still have an Edge, but would have the upgraded skunk stripe Wizard neck that were new in 1997. 507's stuck with the Wizard II.

I'm pretty sure the OP's guitar is a '97. I don't remember ever seeing a '96 with a super wiz.

I have the Silver Flake, and it's awesome. I'm looking for the Green, and Blue Flake, so if any of you ever want to unload, let me know! I'm a guitar hoarder. : )

LOL @ "hoarder" I don't think I ever thought about guitars as being that way. They are more collections which I guess is just a nicer word but still.

I would hoard the sh*t out of the OP guitar though!!! Nice!!!
