Help RG 321

Help me I am thinking of buying an rg321 the mahogany bodied rg with a fixed bridge to customize (dimarzios locking tuners etc) for a guitar to tune to drop C #1 i would like to see pics of the guitar and #2 what does everyone think yes or no if no what would u do insted

i think you're planning right: no floyds and no headaches trying to tune the darn thing. or you can try some long-scale neck RGs, the XLs, or the MMM1. baritone guitars are made for those low tunings.
but i'd keep the original tuners because you won't need locking tuners with a fixed bridge, and because thick gauge low strings often can't flip into the tuners holes, so you'd need to enlarge them out. and you don't want to do that on locking tuners.

If you can find an RG421 used, then one of those might serve you a little better. MIJ and they just have a slightly better overall build quality. And you get all the same features as the RG321. But either way, for what you want it sounds okay to me.

The SZ series may be worth looking at too for dropped tunings and stuff.

Don't forget though the RG421 is basswood bodied whereas the 321 is now mahogany. The original poster might be wanting mahogany for the tonal properties.

i have 2 rg321's. one has the mahogany oil finish and is tuned down to c# but the string is pretty floppy so maybe i need a heavier guage. it holds it tune very well. just a few words of caution, u may need to have the nut worked on to make the nut slots big enuff to accomodate the string gauges u choose, and the hardware has a smokey chrome finish on it. the finish wears off incredibly fast and then u are left with chrome hardware. i used a polish i got from an autobody supply store on the hardware and it removed the remaining smokey chrome color completely and makes it looks awesome. my second rg321 has a custom fabric top finish that i did a couple months ago and is in standard tuning. i know alot of people criticize the rg321 cuz it's made in indonesia. to be honest, it's a great guitar for the money. both of mine play great and i love the mahogany body!

A 321 is the only Ibanez I own now. For some reason, I really dig mine, with stock Pickups too!
