Hi pls help me identify my RG

Hi everyone.

I am new here at the forums, I hope you guys can help.

I recently bought a used Korean Made Ibanez RG.

Here it is:

all I know is that its made in Korea because the sticker at the back near the serial number says so.

It's H-H, it has a bridge similar to a stratocaster, it has bindings on the body, as well as the fingerboard.

I really wish to know what model is this, and what wood was used for the body so that I can properly decide what pickups to use.

Thank you guys and more power to Jemsite!!! \m/

Re: Hi pls help me identify my RG

Check the serial number on this site:
http://www.guitardaterproject.org/ibanez.aspx

That will give you the year it was made, then you can check the Ibanez catalogs here:
http://www.ibanez.co.jp/anniversary/index.html

Re: Hi pls help me identify my RG

Thanks for the help!!!

The body is made of agathis/quilted maple with white binding.

Now I can properly look for replacement active pickups

I could be wrong here but doesn't Ibanez list the model with the serial number? Thats a cool looking Ibanez. Got any better pics? Also, one of the serial number would help.

Some of them do say it, but I don't think the older ones did.

I actually I haven't found what is it yet, I just saw another site selling a guitar that looks like it but the seller there claims that its a "JCustom" which I do not think it is because (I am a new at Ibanez so I may be wrong) I am of the impression that Jcustom guitars are made in Japan, my guitar clearly says "Made in Korea" at the back of the headstock.

Thanks for your input guys, I'll continue my search on the net to properly identify my guitar, and post as soon as I discover its actual model.

Thanks!! \m/

I'm positive it's a 2EX1:

Re: Hi pls help me identify my RG

Cool.

It does look like the RG2EX1, but the bridge on this one is not fixed. You can use a trem.

Thanks for the lead, I'll look online for a RG2EX1 with trans black flame (my guitar's finish) with standard trem.

Do they make the RG2EX1 in Korea?

Here's another shot of my guitar, the finish is not pure black like the RG2ex1, and the bridge has a tremolo slot (which is another problem for me, buying the guitar used, it did not come with the trem bar).

maybe it's an earlier version of RG2EX1 though.

The search continues...

Re: Hi pls help me identify my RG

Sorry, didn't spot the trem, thought it was fixed.
Don't believe there was a 2EX1 variant that came with a trem, plus there was no flamed top, so I was incorrect.

Re: Hi pls help me identify my RG

Hi.

I still can't identify my RG yet. I stumbled upon the RG 198 QM, which is very close to my guitar but that model has H-S-H pickups, while mine has two humbuckers only.

Anyway the reason why I wanted to identify the guitar is so that I can know what wood the body is because I originally wanted to install Seymour Duncan Blackouts on it. After a while though, I fell in love withe stock pickups so I won't replace them now.

Whatever the body is, I like it, because it is so light and it vibrates in such a way that you can feel the guitar when playing, especially when seated.

I'll just leave this guitar as is and maybe I'll just buy a premium.

Thanks for the input guys!
