How are Import SZ Models
Are the new import SZ's made in Korea or Indinosia? How is the playability and quality? I'll replace pickup to Dimarzios so thats not an issue.

Re: How are Import SZ Models
Very solid, well built guitars by all accounts. And as you say if your already planning to replace the stock pickups, then that's another huge step in the right direction. I love the SZ models. They are just well built, solid, compact guitars. That with a pickup change can be made even better. I've always fancied getting a secondhand SZ320 if I ever find one cheapish, just for drop-tunings and stuff like that.
What particular SZ model were you looking at? 320, 520, 720?

Re: How are Import SZ Models
i have played all the SZ's and they are all nice for the money, especially used. solid players. with a little TLC and a pup change they rock. second hand for cheap and you got yourself a nice bargain.
i owned the SZ520 and liked it so much i bought the SZ4020ntf. you get a lot of bang for your buck if you want a fixed/thru stringed, mahogany set-neck/body, two hum LP/PRSish styled guitar. i like them more than the PRS SE models personally and i have to say the 4020 is over the top....sweeeeeet flame-maple.......
and neck-thru tone......
hard to resist for me

Re: How are Import SZ Models
For people who own a SZ. Do you have any problems with it staying in tune at all? I bought mine last year and i'm tuning it after every song.
Also, can you put
locking tuners
on them without having to drill into the headstock?

Re: How are Import SZ Models
when i get my strings stretched out good they usually hold tune fairly well. i'm not sure about the tuners being an easy fit? i was planning on locking Gotoh or Sperzels for my SZ520 before i sold it and bought the SZ4020 which has special locking
Gotoh tuners
stock.

I doubt your problem is tuners. I would say look at replacing the nut.

Re: How are Import SZ Models
I had an SZ320MH. I replaced the pickups with Dimarizo Virtual Vintage's and I didn't like them. I then put in some GFS fat PAF's and it sounded excellent. I mean really excellent but I just never got along with the smallish frets. The frets killed it for me but the sound was really great. I had also replaced the small 3 way switch with a high quality three way. I replaced the pots with high quality push pull pots for
coil splitting
too. I think replacing the pots and 3 way switch made a big difference in sound quality as well. I don't know why but I think the 3 way micro switch mine came with was causeing feedback and noise issues. Once I replaced it all was well.

That's interesting. I've never had a nut replacement done before. Would that be expensive? What type of nut do you suggest i look at getting?

Re: How are Import SZ Models
You can probably buy one off the shelf and install it yourself if you are handy at all. It's just a matter of finding one with the correct string spacing and then sanding down the bottom side until it's the correct hight. I would put a graph tech nut on it if it were me. Anyway your local shop would do it cheap if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself.

Re: How are Import SZ Models
Thanks Rotti. I'll definitely look into doing this because if the problem can be rectified that would be fantastic. I love playing that guitar.
