How can i restring the floyd rose on my ibanez with all the strings already off?

Ok, i was told i could put a 9V battery under the bridge to restring it but when i get them on how do i take the battery out without throwing off how the bridge sits?

did you take all the strings off already?

if so have fun, your in for a adventure and a learning process we all go thru.

Its not recommended to take them all off at one time, and a 9 volt battery will not give you the correct trem alignment.

I have a tutorial somewhere if I can find it, but its going to be a rough time for ya if you never setup a trem before.

I believe Ibanezcollector is right bud, you might be in for a rough trip, don't worry though, everyone with one of these bridges has done something similar (got their trem angle monkeyed up and had to play around to fix it). Personally, I would try and lift the bridge and stuff a sock in the recession until it looks like about the right height. The sock will make sure the finish/bridge doesn't get damaged, and you'll be able to lock up your strings without tension from the springs.

It's not a Floyd Rose, its a "floating bridge" Floyd Roses are a type of Floating bridge, Ibanez dosen't have Floyds they have Ibanez's edges.

^^ theyre still called floyd rose bridges though. if you look at the old ones, they even say 'licensed under floyd rose patents'

i take all the strings off every time i restring. i have to clean the fretboard and all the frets, which you cant do with strings on. its not too bad, just keep tightening all the strings bit by bit (so that the tension is spread fairly evenly across them all. you dont want one string to be holding the whole floyd up) until the bridge is almost bac to the correct angle, then start tuning it properly.

I also take all the strings off every time. It's really no big deal. When you start tuning just go one string at a time and tune sharp. As you tune each string the previous ones will go flat again so you just go over it and over it until it's right. Won't take long at all. And by tuning sharp each time you will get there faster. Once you go thru the process and your strings are staying sharp then start to fine tune things and your there. The bridge angle will be the same unless you adjusted the strings or changed string guage.

Am I the only person in the world who never had any problems from day 1 when restringing a Floyd-type bridge? Honestly, the first day I ever dealt with restringing my first Ibanez in 1988 it was not a problem at all. I don't understand why anyone makes such a big deal over it. Anyone with a brain can work out that it's a question of string tension versus spring tension, surely?

Re: How can i restring the floyd rose on my ibanez with all the strings already off?

the question at hand dee.. Is some people cant set there intonation on a fender style bridge let alone try to setup the complex floating trem.

I have fixed many disasters over my time at the guitar shop I worked at. People would just tool around till the guitar wasnt playable, I have seen people crank down on the truss rod cause they "DON'T" understand its spring versus string tension.

For a complete novice this could be disasterous. And not everyone is mechanically inclined..

I hope it works out for the original poster and it doesnt wind up costing him $50 or more to get it setup by a shop.

I have never had problems, and I take all mine off, for the same above reasons, stated. Part of the problem IS, is that there are alot of guys that want to PLAY guitar, but alot don't want to take the time to get to KNOW the guitar. ICs right: People have no idea what they are doing, but just start F'ing with screw a knobs and such, till eveything's out of whack.
Grab a Dan Erlewin book, and READ. There's more to a guitar than just PLAYING IT. In the end, you'll be glad you did.

I never had problems really either. It was something i really wanted to have, and read up just a bit on it, and that was that. I didnt even know about locking studs though for years till rich told me on here many many years ago.
