How do I identify an RG body?

I've inherited an RG body with a fancy LED-encrusted non-Ibanez neck.

I can't help feeling the neck installer was trying to make a silk purse out of a pig's ear, as I suspect the donor guitar was pretty low end.judging by how ropy the pickups sound.

When you have no neck to go on, any way I can determine the RG model given all I know is it's got a floating trem, HSH with 5-way selector, and black with no pickguard?

The Edge 3 and HSH would make me think an RG370DX.

Could be one of two models.

Thats either an edge pro or an edge II/3 trem in there. My monitor is kinda on the fritz right now and not displaying colors correctly so its hard to tell on my end. Maybe someone with a better display will be able to ID it correctly. Previous poster thinks Edge 3 but I think its either a Pro or the crappier II variety. Could be a 3 though. If theres an access hole cut into rear cavity cover for the trem springs/strings you have the pro or II. If no access hole on the rear cover then its a 3.

If an Edge Pro, probably a RG1570 Japan made. If its the II or 3 then definately an RG370 Korean or Indo made. With the pickups as you suggested are in it definately leans towards the RG370. I suppose someone could have swapped em out but highly doubt it though. At least they lost the rosewood/shark inlays of the original 370 for a maple board (personal prefrence for maple).

FYI you can remove the neck and see if theres anything in the neck pocket. A sticker or a stamping there should indicate exactly what it is. Not always the case but 95 percent of the time with Ibanez guitars they are marked in the neck pocket so thats a good place to look in your situation.

'07-'11 GRG270B.......... the neck looks original, someone sanded the headstock to hide the fact that it's a GIO.

Since its thanksgiving I'm at my folks house and now have a monitor that actually displays colors correctly. (Jealous of my Dad's flatscreen but thats another topic)

Back to the topic at hand I can clearly see it is an Edge Pro or Edge Pro II. Also I can see now I was wrong, the washed out color of the fingerboard isn't maple like I thought, its rosewood. My apology.

Click his link and zoom in on it. That is definately not an Edge 3. The string locks are elongated. If the original poster can confirm the back cover plate has the access holes that would settle it.

I'll go with RG370 like the first guy suggested. I doubt that is a Japan body and hardware. Early to mid 2000's era Korean made when they were using the Edge pro II. 95 percent sure.

The Gio idea I guess works but I don't think they ever used the Edge Pro II on any Gio. At least none that were in the US market. Maybe abroad? Or I've got the timeline wrong when they started using the 3's even on the Gio line ups. I was always under the assumption they went from the @#$% Lo TRS IIs straight to the Edge 3's on those. I might be wrong.

Well I am in the UK.

Either way, the neck must have cost twice the full original guitar. Curazy people out there.

FYI the neck has a superb U-shape profile. Wish more guitars had them like that.
