How much did you pay for your "Golden Age" S?

And where did you find it?

Wow, great prices. My 89 S540LTD was $600 from the place that shall not be mentioned. It is mint and has EMGs, which I wanted. Now, I feel like a paid too much. Oh well, it is my favorite guitar, at least for now.

Re: How much did you pay for your "Golden Age" S?

I don't think $600 is too much for a mint 89 S540LTD.

Elcid's $250 S is covered with stickers....which is fine. But it's hardly mint.

There are always going to be people that found a great deal. Usually because the seller is either someone that doesn't know what they have or just wants to get rid of it quickly and collect some cash.

I'll put it this way... I'd pay $1000 for a NOS MIJ Golden Age S series long before I'd buy a new one.... which go for anywhere from $1300 to $1500 or even more....especially if you include the Herman Li sig. If you buy a used S guitar in good condition it's going to be nicer than the new ones. So either $1500 is way overpriced for the new model or some of these used prices are ridiculously low.

Also...the only thing posting your insanely low priced S series does is help drive down the value of your guitar.

I put the stickers on myself, I didn't buy it that way.

Either way, $600 for an awesome guitar is a great price. I agree with wanting a golden age over a new one, although the Red Viking Flat is awesome! I really like the original Wizard profile. Now, if the new S had that...

But you have to tell them why it has stickers....

I got the guitar dirt cheap during the whole grunge thing because there were some pretty awful scratches in her so I just covered them up. After that it took on a life of it's own.

Not arguing, meanly asking for clarification:
You are saying that the old 540s (from 89-9something?) are simply superior guitars to the new Made in Japan S's? Any particular reason? Or is it just general build quality?

Re: How much did you pay for your "Golden Age" S?

If for no other reason than the known/documented sustain problem (notes don't decay normally on some strings and fret positions) with the MIJ 24 fret S series guitars. The rest of the NEW S series are made in Indonesia...nuff said.

So yes...the old 540's are superior guitars.

Re: How much did you pay for your "Golden Age" S?

I think this post is on topic.

I have the opportunity to acquire a 1987 540 Super Saber. The pups have been upgraded from stock and it appears to be in mint condition (minus a bit of fret wear). Has the Ibanez Backstop in it and everything. And the guy seller it turned out to be one of my college teachers from last year. He said he could part with it for $800 is that a fair price? As it is a lot of money, but I could save up for it, but if not I can keep waiting for the crazy deals.
