How rare/good are 565's?
I really am looking out for a 770DX but I've got a friend selling his modded 565. (dimpled edge, some chips here and there, scalloped from 10-24,
DiMarzio PAF
, 1 volume knob.)
Apparently the
neck pup
and tone pot cavities are still underneath the pickguard but if I remove it the screw holes are there. So I was thinking maybe a blue colored pickguard a la 770 and a single coil that would compliment the PAF.

I'd like opinions on whether this is a worthwhile project or if this model is a run of the mill one. What would you offer for it? Do you guys think it is a worthy investment for a project? What are the differences between the 770 and 565?

Re: How rare/good are 565's?
565 is great. It feels exactly like a 570, though. That's probably quite obvious as it's identical apart from the pickup config and reverse head. I prefer the 565 because H-S pickups are perfect for my needs, and I love the amount of picking space under the strings. Plus I like simplicity.
565's are not super-rare, but you might have to wait a long time before finding one in the best condition. It's kind of a shame to see what happened to that modded one. No one should be doing permanent mods to a rare guitar like this, IMO.

Cool, thanks Dee. I agree about the mods but I think I would be able to salvage something close to the original look albeit a blue pickguard added. I'm kinda diggin' the
scalloped frets
Do you think $500 is a fair price?

No, $500 is way too high for one that's all butchered up like that. $300-$350 is more what it's worth. --Jason

Re: How rare/good are 565's?
I'm not sure. I don't think it's a
great
price, but it's hard for me to say because of the difference in currency. I am pretty sure I've seen good 565's going for less. I'd be interested to know what other people think.
Have you played the guitar? I know it sounds corny, but if it "speaks" to you then maybe the price is OK! And if you can salvage the original look, that's great. The worst thing is the holes in the body made by the
pickguard screws
, but it's not much of an issue if you were to put another guard on it.
EDIT: Jason replied as I was writing this. Seems we're in agreement about the price being too high.

Well talked to the wife and it seems money is tight this month so it looks like I can only afford $350 for it anyway.

Re: How rare/good are 565's?
She's lying! She has a secret bank account with $500,000 in it!
Just a heads up.
In all seriousness, I would wait for a good 565 to come up on the bay or maybe on Jemsite. That's if you really want a 565, of course. Personally I'd love one! I always kick myself for not buying one when they were in shops. Had I known they were only going to be produced for one year, I would have.

Reissue! Reissue! Reissue!
But I doubt that will ever happen, unfortunately.

I really want a 770dx but the ones on the bay are overpriced. I wish FloridaNative would sell me one of hers.
Haven't seen a 565 in a while and its very tempting. He initially wanted $650 so we'll see if he'll do $350. I think I could clean it up nicely

Re: How rare/good are 565's?
that 565 your showing is pretty butchered. i wouldn't give over $350 for it. if it were stock, it could easilt go for $500-650, depending on condition.

I'd agree with you, but I'd probably end up moaning how much they are selling for!

Re: How rare/good are 565's?
too bad about the 770dx situation, too. going rate for a 770dx is around $600-900 depending on condition. i fortunately have an rg770dxvm in 9.0 condition, so i am decently lucky. good luck on the hunt. i actually feel that the 700 series is better than the 500 series as far as quality. the necks have just a tad less
string tension
, imo. love them both, but the 700's are more prefered to me, but rarer animals.

Grabbed my 565 off here and dropped a D-Sonic in it. I love the thing.
