How to do a safe craislist transaction?

I found a guitar I want in a differant state on craigslist.
I talked to the guy for about 20 min. Really nice fellow.
I was thinking pay pal with all the pertenent info
(his address ,detailed description of the guitar, ser. # etc.)
all listed in the pay pal transaction notes as to have all on record.
Any other ideas?

Honestly, I would never do anything but cash and carry for a craigslist transaction. You get absolutely 0 protection, so I think it's really worth it to just find something locally you like or at least buy it online where you have some sorta backup. IMO the only safe craigslist transaction is an in person one.

agreed. it's just a little too risky. although paypal may offer some sort of protection for this sort of transaction, you can still get screwed. i only do local transactions with craigslist.

never do any craigs transaction not in person. One you make sure you're getting what was promised, and second you have the safety if you meet in a public area.
