I got a baritone neck for my RG...

And very nice it looks too. So, the original parts still left to replace are the body, bridge, nut, knobs, 5-way switch tip, middle pickup, truss rod cover (needs replacing), tension bar and machineheads.

This is a new 26.75" baritone neck (same scale as the Yamaha Drop6 models). Ebony on maple, offset dots on the 5th, 12th and 17th frets. Thicker than a normal RG neck, but slightly slimmer, I think, than most Strats.

In case anyone is interested, it cost me £175 total including pickup and delivery and a setup, from Arrowhead Guitars

Ok, so youre replacing the neck and then the body...

Why not get a whole new guitar?

The body on that thing is gorgeous, I love that flat matte black finish. I have always wanted an RG body with that type of finish, it is just the ideal look for metal I feel. Looks really nice by the way. How are you finding the new neck on the whole?

Yeah; it needed a respray after a few too many knocks, and there was one of the GAX (I think) Ibanezes in the shop in a flat grey, and I said "Like that one".

I really like the new neck; the original was a touch thin for me now. Plus the oiled finish on this one is super-smooth and light. The fretboard is lovely under the fingers, the frets are a much friendlier size and the inlay (offset dot at the 5th, 12th and 17th) is something I've fancied for ages. Might get the same inlay on my MMM1 if it's not too expensive.

I do need some fiercer trem springs though; at the moment it's tuned C-C, but I'd prefer D-D with more clarity, then bring the MMM1 up to B-B. Maybe a tremsetter too, but I know little or nothing about such gizmoids.

Oh, and I'm thinking about swapping the 59 in the bridge for something a bit different, and the Lil'59 in the neck for a single coil - it's a bit hot for my playing.

Tremsetters are great, i love them. They're pretty straightforward to install, i got one my 7620. works great. It prevents the bridge from moving when you do heavy mutes and doublestop bends. its way cool. i like the slightly stiffer feel it gives it.

What all do you have to do when you put a baritone neck on?

Not much. I had a set of Elixir 12s put on, then the luthier did the intonation, set the action and got it all in tune. It'll be going back in a couple of months for a second setup once the woods have all settled in, and I'll probably have the heavier strings added then.
