I MAY have found a 540 Radius but...

...it looks a bit odd to me. I have not been able to find anything about a HSH pup setup as well as the body colored headstock. Does this thing look legit? I have been dead-set on a HH pup setup in this Jewel Blue color but I can't find one anywhere....I feel like I may have to settle on this one.

Anyway, here's some pics, tell me what you think!!

This one's for sale out here in California; black headstock and HSS... I thought I saw one like this out here about 8 months ago, it was Jewell Blue as well. Good luck!

I love radiuses. If this one has the ultra neck, i'd suggest you go and buy it already

So no one knows if this body colored headstock is normal for this guitar? Or if everything else looks legit?

Re: I MAY have found a 540 Radius but...

I have had quite a few Radii, including several JBs. None have had a color-matched headstock. However, otherwise that neck looks correct, which makes me wonder whether it was repainted or perhaps a non-US issue. The slightly rough lower edge looks like there could be white primer peeking through, but that could be a photo oddity. Beats me

I think the white is just glare in the pic...It looks legit to me...Its not like there has been a rash of counterfeit radii. If they are asking collector type money for it, it would be worth further investigation I guess. The other alternative is that someone put a s540 neck on it. You would have to check if it is an Ultra or Wizard profile.

Here you go...here is another just like it in Japan. Probably means it was originally a Japan only release.

Re: I MAY have found a 540 Radius but...

I don't think that's the original neck....unless it's a Japanese model or something. The US model 540RLTD had the HSH configuration and a wizard neck with shark tooth inlays. 540r HH and 540r SSH both had the thicker ultra neck with dots instead of shark-tooth inlay and black head stock.

Re: I MAY have found a 540 Radius but...

Looks as though I won't be getting this guitar, the seller didn't want to sell for what I was willing to pay, and I didn't really care to negotiate because this is not that HH configuration I am looking for and if I have to settle, it better be worth it. Oh well, the search for the JB 540R HH continues!

Re: I MAY have found a 540 Radius but...

Sorry to hear the deal fell through. The radius is a great guitar. I have several , some are SSH and some HSH, but I don't own a single HH....so I know what you mean about the HH being hard to find.

If you do come across another HSH and you're thinking about buying, just keep in mind the necks on these are very different feeling than a SSH or HH radius. The HSH neck usually has the wizard profile while the other models have a thicker neck (which feels more like a strat). The HSH you were looking at was unique in that it had the thicker neck...most don't. I'm not sure what you prefer but just keep this in mind because to me the difference in feel is a bigger difference between the guitars than the different pickup configs. I actually like the necks on the 1987's the best....they feel somewhere in between the two i described. It's all personal preference. Anyway, good luck with your search and be sure to post pictures when you find one.
