I might be getting ripped off by a forumite...

Ok so I found a guitar for sale on here a few weeks ago for a pretty good price, so I messaged the guy selling it and told him I wanted it. We agreed on a price, and he also said he would install new pickups in it for me for an extra $50. He seemed like a cool dude, so I sent him the money and the pickups last Tuesday. I sent it overnight, which took 2 days for some reason, so he got it on Thursday. He sent me an email last Thursday, the 14th, saying...

"i will try to get the pickups installed tonight and ship it friday, if not i'll have it shipped monday for sure and that'll give me the weekend to get everything set and box it up."

I haven't heard anything from this guy since last Thursday, and the guitar hasn't showed up. I've been emailing him at his home and work email addresses and sending PM's on here, no responses at all. I've also been calling his cell phone...which he isn't answering.

Not sure if I should say his user name yet or not, I'm not trying to start **** or anything, I'm just looking to get in contact with him so I can find out what's going on and get my guitar.

Re: I might be getting ripped off by a forumite...

Basically it's just as I said in the first post. I found an RG3120 for sale on here, from a guy with the user name "shaddoe" and we worked out a price for it, I sent him the money, he emailed me and said he got the money...then never sent the guitar and cut off all communication. He doesn't reply to emails, doesn't answer his cell phone, and his PM box is full on here. I called his workplace, and they said he quit on Friday, and couldn't give me his home phone number.

I decided to Google search the guys name, and the first thing that comes up is a thread from a car forum where this guy scammed someone else for $60,000.

http://www.kitcarsforum.com/index.ph...=7131.msg73184

Here is all the info I have on him.

Robert Proulx
1508 Julia Street
New Iberia, LA 70560

Cell Phone - 337-247-4173

Work info...

Southern Structures Corporate Office
918 Young Street
Broussard, LA 70518
337-856-5981
800-264-5981
sales@southernstructures.com

Email address at which he contacted me...

rproulx@southernstructures.com
billpreston2@hotmail.com

His old website, which doesn't seem to work...

www.exoticglass1.com

I made contact with the guy he scammed from that car forum, and we're trying to take this loser down. If anyone knows any info about this scumbag, please let me know. Also, if anyone lives in the New Iberia or New Orleans area, I will be willing to pay you to go to this guys house and get my guitar and or money back.

He said he has done some deals on here before, but didn't have any itrader ratings. Has anyone actually bought something from this guy on here? He's been registered since 2003. He also uses the same user name on a number of car forums too.

Its funny how scammers show up on multiple forums. My friend sold his car to a guy on a car forum and the guy called him screaming that the car broke down on the way home (under suspicious conditions). My friend looked into the guys history and he has a long history of scamming people on various forums. It a shame that there are pricks like that out there.

Haha, well that would be cool, but I'd rather have the cops hunt him down and throw his ass in jail. I'm definitely not the only person who's after this guy.

Mega, did you send a personal check? You can cancel it even if it has been cashed you know. Money orders will kill you every time.

I've called the police in the town of the bad person and filed a complaint before. With some creative googling I've also found parents who I contacted (by letter once) explaining what had happened and got results each time.

The US Postal service can be a partner too as this person has perpetrated fraud on you via the US mail system. Build it all up and contact the person again. Get an email program that does read conf so you know at least that he's seeing the messages.

Sucks to get taken.

Unfortunately I sent cash, like a dumbass. But even if I wouldn't have done that, I would have sent a money order, which is more or less the same thing. That guy from the car forum has the police after him, but this guy seems pretty good at scamming people and getting away with it.
