Heh, I'd actually quite like a rosewood-boarded guitar to add to my collection now...never owned one, only briefly played a few. But that'll have to wait a while, methinks...I've blown waaay too much money on this PGM to be looking for another guitar in a hurry, especially with all the other things I want to buy.

I've got Gear Acquistion Syndrome in high gear and a PGM 301 is at the top of my list. Remarkably, the last maple fretboard guitar I had was when i first started playing and had a Memphis strat copy over 20 years ago!

It's brilliant, though I'm liking the neck pickup less and less, now that I've had it long enough to begin to get to know it. It also inspires me to play quite differently than my RG, for some strange reason, which is kinda cool.

ive been looking at these for a while now...im seriously thinking about trading my Rg2550 for one of these as the Trem is driving me nuts and i like the maple fretboard.

Be prepared for a much livlier sound if you do that...a pickup swap might be in order if you're playing heavy metal or other high-gain music. But the trade-off is a much nicer neck, and a really nice feeling instrument, so if it were me looking at trading an RG2550 for a PGM, I'd do it.

Mmmmm...i do quite like a nice smooth sound....is the PGM going to be 'twangy' ?? if you know what i mean.....the kinda sound that does it for me is probably best described as Santanas 'smooth' and Petrucci 'glasgow kiss'...would this make the PGM a no no then??

You could probably get a passable 'Glasgow Kiss' out of it, but I'm not so sure about thicker, Santana-esque stuff. You could probably manage it with a bit of EQ'ing, but the PGM is quite a twangy guitar...for some reason, it strongly reminds me of a Telecaster when I'm playing it unplugged and just messing around, and even when its plugged in, I play it more like I would a Tele than, say, an LP or a typical RG. Perhaps an RGA might be more for you? I don't think they're quite as twangy as PGMs, plus they've got thicker-sounding wood in the first place. Pickups in them are a bit lacklustre, but with the money you save over buying a PGM, you could afford a nice set of DiMarzios.

Actually, a good example of how the PGM sounds would be this - http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?...q=paul+gilbert

That's the sort of tone you can expect from a PGM. It's brilliant at that sort of sound, very Strat-like (I usually hate Strats, but in this instance, that sort of sound just seems 'right' for the guitar).

If I manage to wangle another guitar within the next few years, aside from any project ones that happen to catch my eye, I think I'd go for an RGA or a Les Paul...that thick, smooth sound is what I'm missing from my guitar arsenal just now. Of course, I could always borrow that beautiful '70s LP Custom that my uncle owns...
