Ibanez 440R - can someone tell me what the body is?

I bought this in 1992, and am still trying to figure out what the wood is... I know the neck is maple and rosewood, but what's the body? I've recently shaved off the paint and lacquer, and discovered that the wood is very light colourd and very grainy... Could this be alder? It feels a bit too light for basswood...

Yes it is: alder.

But why did you shaved it off? Didn't like the finish?

The 92 catalogue lists the 440R as having a basswood body.

I thought basswood was slightly lighter than alder (on average; individual pieces vary, of course...).

Nuno: well, I did like the finish, but it was so banged up i thought i'd give it a new look. I'm having it resprayed, and will post pics of my custom paint job when i get it...

Alder??? hmm... or is it basswood? I think it's basswood though, cos' i remember the catalogue saying so. though it doesn't look like it to me...

Sorry, I searched on HC about the 440R, and users described it as an alder body, so...

You surely know it for sure.

Anyway, Spiral Acid, I'm waiting for the pictures!

I got it done at BOB's Studio here. I'm collecting it soon, and should be able to get a few pics up soon. And who are you? How do you know my name???

Nuno: If you're referring to the HC review, I did it... so that would mean it's not a confirmed answer.
