Ibanez 540P/540PII owners?

I have another one with the H-H set up.
I took that apart to sand the body and repaint it because it has some chips.
Not that I really mind but I also would like to have a different colour (white).
I love these guitars, one thing that troubled me when I got my first was reaching at the higher frets. The lower horn get's a little bit in the way.
Now I'm kinda used to that.

You said you saw that 540pII that had been sanded. I saw that one too. Why do people mutilate guitars like that?

Over email I asked the guy why he butchered up his 540PII like that. He said he thought it looked cool like that. But my gosh.....did that fool not know what treasure he had in his hands. ;-(

I saw once one on **** that had the lower horn cut off! What a waste!

even Paul Gilbert's got a PII with the lower horn cut off. you can see it on the Terryfying Guitar Trip instructional video. he's my hero, but that's pretty bad, not only for the cut itself but because the lower horn looks so cool as it is. you may kill someone with it!

Hey I saw his 540PII on that video. A red one. He used it in the studio while recording the solo for "Nothing but Love". I'm sure the guitar was intact at that point. Is it somewhere else in that video that you saw the cut off?
I totally agree with you that the lower looks cool. That feature makes this guitar look like a mean machine....

Hmm...I have a 1987 RG550, F7 serial # on the neck. It has a maple
fret board and the RG neck has much more mass to it than my 540P.
I know that the early RG550s had a wizard neck, so I don't think

540p neck should be the same and they ARE NOT...trust me
I own one of each...
Also, I have a MINT MINT MINT "blueburst" radius(h-s-s) p. config.
The neck on that guitar and my 540P feels EXACTLY the same...

I had a 540PII with HH pickup configuration, 24 frets and the silver/grey pickguard. I sold it a little while back to thin out my guitar collection, also since someone offered me an insane amount of money for it. It really was a great guitar, for what it was.

trust me, you may got something out of the standard production, or maybe someone swapped the original necks. here you can see the catalogues showing necks measurements either for the RG and the 540P:

i too own both the RG550 and the 540P and the only difference i feel is the width at last frets (1mm wider on the RG). the rest is exactly the same.

as above. here are the necks measurements from the catalogues:

i too own a '87 Radius and the neck size and shape differences are stunning. you can even see it by eye. get a caliper, take measurements: if the 540P, 540R and RG necks are different from catalogues specs then they may be swapped or they aren't factory installed.

Here's my 540PHH 24 frets that I would like to refinish.
This one has a couple of chips around the edges, not that I really bother, but I'm lucky enough to have another one in black, also 24 frets.
I'm sanding it myself and having the paintjob done by a pro.
Would white with a blue pickguard, blue knobs and blue pu's be cool?
Any other suggestions?

What about a cool Graphic desing?? like the old usa customs
or a yellow & black swirl (yellow logo of course
or a Picasso graphic in red, black, yellow and grey ( a kind of germany flag), I would love to see a picasso Graphic in a 540PII. It would be really cool.

i'd choose a neon color as it was in that era. with complementing pickups colors, i.e. neon pink w/neon green pickups, or red with white pickups, or so.
