Cool! I like that swirl job.

Re: Ibanez 540P/540PII owners?

I own a 1987 540 Power. It is magenta color, and is the same one that joe satriani did the initial ad for the power series with (white one)...I think the difference between the 87 and 88 is that mine has a volume knob and a tone control knob (with the control to turn the humbucker to a single coil). I would add a picture, but don't do HTML. Everything else on the guitar seems substantially the same as what I can tell from the one in the 1988 brochures that I have seen on the net. I still remember picking this thing up at guitar center about 16 years ago when I was about 13, and it was the best guitar I ever played (both at that time, and still currently).

I am trying to look for some information on this. I am thinking of mounting it, and was looking for the original ad for the guitar, as well as any brochures. I can't find any on ****, and just jpg's on the net. If anybody knows of any place to get this, it would be appreciated.

I am also interested in learning any info on this guitar, such as how many made, estimated value, etc....Outside of the information already posted here, if anyone has any good infor to share, please pass it on.

Very good thread, thanks for the useful information. There is a few other threads with 540 subject matter that I may post to, so you may see me there.

Thanks!!

You don't need to know HTML, you just use IMG tags.

Code:
[IMG]URL OF PIC[/IMG]
Just upload a pic to www.Imageshack.us, and when it's uploaded you get a bunch of URL's. Use the bottom one. Put it between those image tags.

Re: Ibanez 540P/540PII owners?

I've always liked the 540PII's.
Spotted one here in the UK the other day in a guitar store but they want 499 for it.
It's a black one with the HH pickup configuration and the small pickguard.

I missed a real good deal on an HH DY one not long back. The DY one with the pickguard is probably my favourite.

I may be moving the Yellow one some time soon. I sold the White 540P-SH.

Arrgghh. They're all so cool. I want one.

JTM, I don't think £499 is too much for a rare guitar if it's in nice condition.

Re: Ibanez 540P/540PII owners?

I also got a very minty P540. Magenta, as so many others. I'll try to get some good pic to show the color.

Re: Ibanez 540P/540PII owners?

Powers are great guitars, here's mine (plus I think I have another black power body somewhere, too):

Magenta with refinished hammered grey hardware and grey IBZ USAs:

Carotene orange:

And, my 540P Triple Coil with 540 P-II neck (this one is mostly for Dee since I keep taunting him with it and haven't re-posted it in about a week ) :

Re: Ibanez 540P/540PII owners?

Nice magenta Power (I have the same one, see pic above)!! After being in here a short while, I think it is safe to say that I am now in the market for a PII TC (good luck, right). Of everything that I used to have and sold over the years, I am very happy I never got rid of my 87' P.

I also just purchased a cole clark FLA2. Quite possibly the best acoustic/electric I ever played (sorry Ibanez). Plays alot like a taylor, but half the price and alot more sound variation with the EQ. Hard to find (there are no major US distributors yet) so if you ever see one, make an offer. If anyone is interested, I will add a pic on another forum....

Thanks, Nuno, Actually, it was you that inspired me to take on this project. I never really knew much about these guitars until I saw your pics of Tweety all over the web (I have still never seen one in real life). Your pictures piqued my interest and I started researching the 540's and collecting parts.

The body should be painted in about a week (I still don't know what my brother-in-law will be doing for a paint job). I will start assembling when I get the body back and then post pictures.

By the way, I will have a spare black F3 pickup left over when I am done assembling that I might be willing to part with (quite good shape, but not completely mint). I will let anyone interested know when it is available (when I verify the F3 that I am using in the guitar works well).
