That thing looks pretty nice. I may have to build something like it for myself! --Jason

Who do you think was going to paint mine if I decided to go that way?

Those darn 540pii bodies.....were are they when you need 'm hey?
Would kill for Pii neck though (incl. toplock nut).

Good luck with the toplock nut! If you find a source, please let me know.
I had to buy a
floyd rose
R5 that was way too thick. I then had to have the back milled down by a machinist which ruined the plating. I couldn't find a chromer that could get black chrome to flow into the small crevasses, so I had to remove every bit of the nickel plating of the rest of the nut then get it hot-blued by a gunsmith. If you don't get all the nickel off, the bluing won't penetrate the metal on these spots, and the nickel will contrast very brightly.
Total cost for a nut (that isn't even cosmo black), WELL over $100.

Yeah, luckily mine had the nut on it. I actually have a custom made neck that takes the same width that I have a gold one on, but I'm not sure how thick it is. I'll have to check that when I get home.

Mine probably needed about 2mm shaved off the back. It would have resulted in the strings being pulled way sharp when fretting on the first couple of frets.

Why didn't you just take the 2mm off the neck itself? As long as you are careful that would have been the easier option. Just food for thought there.

I was thinking of that, but I thought if something got screwed up, I would never find another PII neck. If something got screwed up on the nut, I could just call Warmoth and order another R5 nut for $30. Plus I'm still holding out hope that someday I will find a cosmo 45mm nut that will be a perfect fit (it's a long shot but you never know).

Re: Ibanez 540P/540PII owners?
I once had opportunity to buy an 540Pii neck in very good state, but lacking toplock nut. I opted out for this same reason.
When I'm done with my 540Pvii I will probably build another 6 stringer 540pii body and take RGR or Reverse USA
Custom necks
to finish it off.

I would definitely consider a Pii with a wizard profile neck. I just love the neck on my Jem 7PBK.
By the way, are you close to finishing your 540Pvii? That looked like an awesome project when I saw it last.

I agree with you regarding the shape. The Jackson & Charvel Demons are close, but they just don't seem to have all the right angles like the Ibanez's.

Re: Ibanez 540P/540PII owners?
Sorry if this should be in the tech section, but I figure one of the 540p junkies would have the answer that I am looking for.
I'm just about finished shielding the cavities on my project and am ready to start wiring. Does anyone know how the original 540p's were wired? Does anyone have the diagram for a 2 humbercker with a 3 way
toggle switch
?
Thanks for all the help.
