Ibanez 540P/540PII owners?
Hi, I wonder if there are any 540P/40PII owners on this board.
I don't see them passing by that much overhere.
Let's gather in this thread and talk about what you like/dislike about them.
Modifications you did, colours and maybe we can set up some kind of archive of serials to see how much of these were actually made.
I own two 540PII's. Both 24 frets. Both black. One has a h-h configuration and the other one h-s. I'm thinking of repainting the h-s in white, with a blue pickguard and blue knobs. Would that be cool?

Re: Ibanez 540P/540PII owners?
Have 540P in collection. Really like
body shape
, and love strange pup combo.
Would like to add 540PII to collection. But as the are quite hard to get hold off (patience is not my virtue!!!), I might build one and do something special with it (Bigsby, Tele trem, etc), although Maxxas 7 string copy will be first on the list.
Recently bumped into 540PII that owner had attacked with paintstripper and bandsander. It put tears to my ears.

Oh yeah that's a 540p TPC, right? Triple coil! Nice one! I also have a 540P in exact the same colour but with a h-s-s set up. Fast necks!
Mine is from 1987, yours? Hey by the way you're from Holland?

Re: Ibanez 540P/540PII owners?
I have a white 540P EXACTLY like the one Joe
is holding on the cover of "not of this earth"
Super sweet axe. I do have a question about the neck profile.
Ibanez had what they call a "ultra" neck. The profile on my 540P
is very thin, is that what Ibanez considerd a "ultra" neck??

Re: Ibanez 540P/540PII owners?
The Ultra neck was on the original Radius guitars. The P guitars had Wizard necks.

Re: Ibanez 540P/540PII owners?
Mmm, I always thought that the Ultra necks were a little wider at the nut?
These necks are on the 540PII's.
Never knew they were on the old Radius' as well.
jl2556- show us some pics of that white one. I'm posting some pics of mine today.

They changed the body a bit (moved some mass around). I think, I'm not quite sure though but the neck was speced after his
Kramer Pacer
I think.

those were W-type necks, 45mm wide at the nut. the U-type neck was 42mm wide, like on Fenders i guess, and they also were a little thicker than W-type and Wizard necks.

I've got a player P540 SSH, in the same red as the red ones above. Very nice guitar! I really like it a lot. Bought it without trying it, as I've never seen one in Norway before.

Mine is an 1987 too. Nuno inspired me. I bought it mainly for the "triple coil" but the body shape has grown on me. I really like it.
Similar thing happened to my Maxxas. At first I found it an odd guitar, but reading about it I discovered it's mistery side.......I added one to my collection and now it's my most favorit Ibanez.
Same process I'm currently going through with 540PII. At first I thought it was a stupid looking guitar. The shape irritated me......but like most things that irritate you....slowly you start to appreciate it.....and now I want one.
I asked guy in Holland to copy the body contour on piece of paper, so I have the option of making one.

Ah okay I see. You said you saw that 540pII that had been sanded. I saw that one too. Why do people mutilate guitars like that?
I saw once one on **** that had the lower horn cut off! What a waste!
