Ibanez 8-strings? (Thordendal and Hagström of Meshuggah)

Rumours (pretty good source) are abound that the guitar meisters of Meshuggah are getting Ibanez 8-strings built by the L.A. Custom Shop. Cool indeed...

i guess you are referring to a post from "Darkmatter" at the meshuggah board:

>>"Not sure if this had been reported yet, but seeing that out guitar tech is the same guy that's building custom guitars at Ibanez's shop here in L.A., you may be interested in knowing that he's making two 8 string Ibanez guitars for them.
>>
>>If they are finished by Ozzfest here in L.A. then they will play them.
>>
>>I'll try to get some neat pics if at all possible.
>>
>>Wish me luck!
>>
>>Vince L - PROTOTYPE
>>www.prototypeonline.com "

i think he meant to say "our guitar tech......"

if that's true i'd like to know the specs, and if it's a 8-inline headstock then damn that's a big headstock.....

I would've copy/pasted that if the Meshforum wasn't a non-public forum but I guess it's no biggie.

we are talking about new custom Ibanez 8-strings, not the swedish made "Newborn" 8-strings that were made a little while ago.

Since nobody has pointed this out yet, I'll just say this is getting silly.

I mean, eight strings? Whassat, low-G?

How long before these bands start showing up on stage with LA custom shop harps, the lowest notes of which can only be heard by the earth's whales, the highest notes serving only to disturb neighborhood dogs?

Where will the madness end?

F# I believe...

I dunno where it'll stop, soon enough we'll all be playing bass !

Or maybe they are slowly trying to get rid of their bassist !

Good riddance!! Never really heard a purpose for him in there. Barely even noticed him at first. But seriously, I doubt they'll go more than 8-strings...unless they want to start doubling up...16-STRINGS!!!

credit to Ibanez if the Meshuggah players ever received a custom 8-string. thordendal & hagstrom didn't jump into the 7-string bandwagon, they genuinely incorporated very low notes into their music.

alternatively, they can start picking up a chapman stick...

I think that the 8th string is actually a higher string not a lower or at least I think that is what the Meshuggah guys had in mind for it. Remember they are more in to strange than low.

Actually, they are using it as a low string. I remember reading that in the original thread about their other custom 8-strings.
