Ibanez GRX40 - some questions..

I want to start playing the electric guitar, and i've already reserved a GRX40BK. (getting it tomorrow). I want to know what the good and bad things are about this electric guitar, i've heard that it's a great beginner's guitar. But what are the pro's and con's of it ? It seems that there are some problems with the standard tremolo bridge from some other threads i've read, true ?

TIA,

aknewbie.

Ibanez GRX40

hi there,

i don't own the GRX 40, but i own the RX 40, i guess there's not much diff there...

the thing that bothers me abt the RX 40 is that the individual string saddle of the bridge has screws that protrude into my palm when i play in a certain way (mostly when chugging/ muting). bottom line- it gets in the way. if only ibanez can replace this with the ones in the SA 160 model.

the frets r also a little thin for speed.

other than that, this is a gd entry level guitar, especially if u have gd PUs in it (i have a tone zone in there, so my RX is killer).

cheers

Hi GermX,

I know it isn't a good guitar compared to the other collectors on this web site, but i have to say that i am pretty proud and happy of/with this e. guitar :>

Very true, i've noticed it when i was trying to mute it. I wonder they haven't changed it when they've updated it to the GRX..

I still have the standard Powersound PU's on it. I don't even dare to think about replacing the PU's with DiMarzio's or whatever, since i have no experience in this and i might mess up my new guitar for good. I guess i'll just bring it to a pro. Or read some GOOD tutorials on the i-net.

Anyway thanks for your reply !

-Alvin.

Ibanez GRX40

Hi there Alvin,

my RX40 acquisition was intended as a backup for my RG560. the tone zone in there was a by-chance replacement. i had it installed in my RG560 intitially but the dork who did it didn't know it has to be F-spaced! so out it went & into my RX...

i also have another cheap+good guitar- the GAX 70.

there's nothing to be ashamed about owning such entry-level units, it's what you gain from 'em that matters. stay cool.

Another inexpensive route to take would be getting a used RG 5XX. You can find some older pre AANJ ones on eBay for under $300.
