Re: ibanez masa

i own one, it plays great, thats why i bought it. i usually play without amp so can not really speak to the electronics. i have been playing tuned down a whole step, it plays even better, am now thinking of adding a bigsby or a floyd rose ??? does anyone have a Masa with any type of vibrato and how hard is it to do ?

Um, it's the lack of a solid block of wood that make it unsuitable for a floating trem, not the fact it's inexpensive.

But if you pull it off, well, by all means, post it.

Peace
Mike

thanks Mike, i understand that, nothing to mount it to... you use the term floating trem, is there a diferent type of trem that would work on acoustic ?

i dont have the diy to alter a guitar, i would have to bring it to a shop to have work done. it would be cheaper to add a trem to a guitar i already have, is there is a type of trem that could be mounted on a Masa ?

ps...I will probably just buy another guitar with one already on it ... thats how this thought process started ... shopping for a (336) and few have bigsby, i figured i could buy the guitar of choice and install one instead of choosing a bigsby and taking the guitar that its attached to... that way you could choose the model you want and not have to settle for anything less...

thanks for entertaining my head trip ... there is a link to a trem on an acoustic titled "Gypsy Guitar With Floyd Rose Tremolo by Carlos Vamos " i couldnt paste the link, i dont have enough posts yet.

Re: ibanez masa

A floating trem like a floyd rose isn't anchored to the body, it pivots or floats on two anchors that are screwed into the wood.

When you say you've been shopping for a "336," are you talking about the Gibson CS-336, a semi-hollow body electric guitar? The 336 is not an acoustic guitar. Pay attention to the description where it says,

" . . . and a center block that is an integral part of the top and back."

That center block of wood gives the guitar body enough integral strength to support a Bigsby or any other trem.

I saw the video you're talking about. That acoustic top in his guitar is enduring more force than it's designed to. The trem might work for a five-minute youtube video, but eventually, maybe slowly, maybe catastrophically, it will rip that top up.

You're welcome. I wrote this assuming that you're earnest and not a troll. If that's the situation, you should learn a lot more about the basics of guitar construction before you try and put a trem on an acoustic.

Peace

Mike, thanks for your advice. yesterday i was playing the Masa, its tuned down to D, it plays like butter, i wont mess with it, its perfect.

I visited Guitar and Banjo yesterday and the rep showed me three different types of trems, the Rose, Fender, and Bigsby ... i dont think a rose is for me... it seems to be more of a head banger rock thing ... i am looking for the sounds that srv got on Lenny. thanks again.
