Winter NAMM. The vast majority of new guitars are showcased for the first time at Winter NAMM. Summer NAMM is usually when Ibanez bring out a few limited edition models/colours.

Re: Ibanez new models?

I really don't understand the logic behind that scheduling, but that's how it is. From a marketing standpoint, wouldn't it make more sense to premier the bulk of the new stuff during the summer, so they'd be in stores during the fall and the holiday season and save the obscure stuff for Winter?

Granted, other business do the same, they hype their products in the Winter for the upcoming Summertime (like movies, tours, etc.), but, as cynical as it sounds, music gear companies should 'strike while the iron is hot' and schedule the products to come out while consumers already have their wallets out. (Translation: I don't want to have to wait 'till Spring/Summer for the 8-string!)

Is there meant to be a certain period when people 'have their wallets out?'. Most people I know get paid monthly so I dunno why there'd be any peak time of the year for buying guitars outside the Christmas period and sale periods (e.g. boxing day to new years and Easter). Those sale periods will be to clear out old stock mostly. Otherwise good points I guess. I hate seeing nice new pictures of Ibanezes and not seeing them in the shops for months, but then it takes some time for them to come to the UK.

Also Winter NAMM is one of the few things worth looking forward to in January outside starting a new school/college/uni term (eugh!).

Re: Ibanez new models?

Maybe over there it's different, but in the US, Christmastime is THE peak time of year for commerce and the more wise industries make sure that they their newst wares on the shelf for when people have their wallets out. The past couple Christmases, the newer versions of Apple iPods were the hottest items and the marketing timing was flawless. Musical Instrument manufacturers don't seem to have that urgency.

Most people get paid monthly, but for the months before, they're saving money for Christmas shopping and the months after, their money is going towards their credit card bills for what they spent on shopping :-p

Re: Ibanez new models?

Hopefully we'll have something that Ibanez has never given us, something that we all want. Such as finishes in black, dark blues, maybe a pearl back, midnight blue, and if we're lucky enough, white with a maple board in a low end budget guitar.
