IBANEZ RG-770DX pickups ????

HELLO!!! i am new in this forum... i am from spain (sorry for my english).

i have win a ibanez rg770dx in e-bay:

the seller has said to me that he has committed an error in the specifications. he copied RG770DX characteristics of year 92.
the guitar must be year 1991, becouse it has edge bridge.

why the guitar has F2 C2 F2 pickups?????.
in ibanez catalog '91 and '92 show F2 C3 F4 pickups....

please... can you help me?

The previous owner probably changed the pick up's but it's weird because i though the F2 is for bridge only. Thats what i think. Do you have the guitar yet, i mean do you like the sounds?

i dont have the guitar yet.

a man in a forum, here in spain, told me that he have a RG770DX with F2 C2 F2 pickups. he bought it news(no used), in a guitar shop(year 1992). he said to me that the pickups F2/C2/F2 are ibanez "whims".

what do you think?????

The 770's had F2's in the neck before they came out with the F4. They showed the F1, F2, and F3 in the '89 catalog, and the F2 is in the neck position of the 770's and the 540PII. Then for the '90 catalog they started showing the F4. I'd really like to try an F4 personally, it's described as a PAF Pro with a little more lows. Anyway, the guitar should have an F4 but I imagine Ibanez used whatever they felt like at the time. Maybe the factory ran out of F4's for awhile. The pickups were made in the USA, so if they ran out it would take a while to get more.

Creo que es mejor que cambies los pickups por Dimarzios. Creo que el tipo de madera del body de tu guitarra es basswood, asi que te sugiero que uses la combinacion de Dimarzio Tone Zone y Air Norton o Steve's Special y Air Norton.

I have a '91 RG770DX (comprada en Tenerife

) and it has F2's too. It's one of the old models: pickguard-mounted pups (rear routed body though), non-AANJ, F2 pups. It's one of the first models, before the change in specs

even the intonation looks good

Nice score! I think the color likely had something to do with the pickup choice available. The blue ones had the same pickup combination

The catalog shots still show both colored 770's with an F4 in the neck, so the red F4's existed, but it's really making me think they ran out or something and just used F2's. It's also making me think there're some blue F2's in some neck positions out there.
