I have an '89 RG750 and it, like all of them (750/760/770), are
basswood bodies
with
jumbo frets
. The 750/760 came out in '89 and lived until '92; the 770 came out in '90 and lived until '93. '93 is also when the RG550 was introduced. If you dig the 750s, the 550LTD which was introduced in '94 is very similar although it has the AANJ and cheaper pickups. I bought one recently in near mint.
If you want to see what models were available which years, check here:

Here are a couple of pics of my RG770BK. I believe it's a '91 model. Compared to my RG570, and RG550 which are 2000 models it totally kicks ass both in looks and playability. The neck feels wider and flatter.

Say what now? Maybe "RG Series" first appeared on the headstock in '93, but the 550 (the Roadstar 550) was available at least 5 years earlier than that.

Doh! You're right. I believe the 550 Roadstar first showed up in the '88 catalog.

Re: Ibanez RG 770's and 750's information needed
The 550 has been "RG" since 1987 - there a supplemental brochure from 1987 that's not on Ibanezrules, not to mention my RG550 has a 1987 serial number, and I bought it way back in either late 87 or early 88. In the 1988 catalog, it's called "RG" - check the specs (I realize it also says "Roadstar" in there, but they are RG550 and RG560 listed both in the specs and under the pictures - I seriously doubt you'd find one person that has ever referred to a DSY RG550 as a "Roadstar"):
http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/...oadstar5_4.jpg
And for the 89 catalog, they had dropped the "Roadstar" altogether:

Yeah, "Roadstar" seems to just have been some marketing/catalog slogan that never caught on.

Um, it caught on just fine. It was the flagship model designation throughout the bulk of the 80s, and its why the prefix RG and RS exist. The transition to RG from Roadstar Guitar was the abbreviation of a long running model name. Learn your history boy!

They dropped the "Roadstar" name in '89 catalog after what, 6 years? The RG name was used back then too, so ipso facto, since Roadstar was forgotten after that, in marketing terms and practicality, it "never caught on". Learn your marketing boy!

Re: Ibanez RG 770's and 750's information needed
hello Amy - I couldn't help but take notice of your realease with Michael on "Schugar/Schenker" - VERY FREAKING COOL!!!!!
I couldn't find a link for newsletters or mail list on your site - do you have a myspace page setup yet?
I'm in a San Jose band currently - TinMan (classic rock cover tunes); we just opened up for The Sun Kings @ The Little Fox Theater in Redwood City last Friday night. Visit us @ tinmanmusic.net for current news, pics, bio, audio, etc. &/or myspace.com/tinman_music).
I am looking to get into a heavier scene musically though so stay tuned on that front!
Rock on!!!
- ardell
p.s. nice vox on Rock Bottom

Re: Ibanez RG 770's and 750's information needed
Hello,
I am looking for people in this area to form a band with here to do some showcasing and getting out to play a little bit! Please email me privatly at the
amy@amyschugar.com
your number and I will call you.
This is not out yet, and perhaps I should not say it yet, but Michael and I are in very close contact and he wants to work together again, however it would be with me and the Scorpions and Michael , all of us together.
He is doing what he can to get me to be singing on the album . Last night to hear of this from Michael made my heart sing. Rudy is (as they all are) very nice.
I have not posted this on my website, because at this time it is only be rumour and details and confirmation have to be done
This is only Michaels wish and all of it has to be run through Rudy Schenker at this time-
But for now, please call me. I do have a band in La and they are very important and if I get a show down there, they are ready to go.
Thank you for the very kind words of my music.
Contact me and I get you a copy-
All the best,
Amy Schugar
