Ibanez RG for low tunings

Howdy folks!

I need some tips for low tunings with Ibanez!
I currently own a RG-7620, great guitar, but too damn wide neck..
And I donīt wanna buy a Baritone..
So what Iīm looking for, is a Ibanez with a Super Wizard neck (25 1/2"), and a Lo Pro Edge, that I can tune to B (b-e-a-d-f#-b).
But I donīt know how the guitar, and the vib. will handle the tuning..
Maybe Iīll go for 0.13 - 0.56 strings..
Has anyone out there any info on this ??
It would be cool to have this low tuning, and be able to use the tremolo..Iīm planning on putting in a Sustainer, and maybe a Duncan Distortion Trembucker in the bridge. Of course it depends on what guitar I end up buying..

Hope someone can help!
Thanks in advance.

Carcass (RIP) had RG's and S guitars tuned to the same tuning you desire. Though i'm not too sure what exact models they used, I remember seeing an orange RG750 in a picture in some mag and a black S in the 'No Love Lost' video. The gauge they used were .56, .46, .36, .24, .18 and .12. Not sure what type of pickups they used (perhaps stock???) but their sound was great and well defined. I do know that they didn't use active pickups.
I'm not too sure about having duncans for such low tunings. I installed a duncan distortion once for my rg470 that was tuned to B and it sounded really muddy... perhaps it was the guitar itself? who knows.... Never hurts to experiment though.

you should be able to tune any RG to that if you use the guage of strings you're talking about. The intonation will have to be reset though, which isn't a huge issue, but it will work fine. You may need to adjust the truss rod as well.

I've got a guitar that i'm planning on using for dropped tunings, and when i was selecting pickups, Tom Anderson recommended going with a lower-output, more vintage-oriented pickup for the bridge position.

With the strings tuned down in standard scale, the string excursion (how far the string vibrates) is generally going to be much greater than with a guitar in standard tuning. A really hot pickup will get too much signal going through it, and you'll have a harder time keeping the sound clean and defined. I think a Duncan Distortion might be a bit too hot for downtuning. I'd suggest maybe a '59 or a Custom 5 in there.

I'll second what Darren and Tom said Lower output pickups with LESS bass are a great idea for Low tunings. Korn used to use the neck pickups from their UVs in the bridge position because they had a lower output and less pronounced bass reponse.

Personally I use PAF Pros in guitars that I down tune, lots of treble and presence ann not too much bass and a reasonable low output

re:

Thanks for the input guys!!
Iīve been thinking of getting either a ESP, or RG-570.
But I donīt think the Floyd licensed bridge on the ESPīs are that good..
Also, the Wizard neck is amazing!!
Does ESP make models with the same feel as the Wizard-neck ??

Anyone tried the Sustainiac...? Sounds great!
Is it difficult to install..?

I think ESP's neck tend to be a little thicker ontheir production stuff, the super expensive custom shop will obviously do a neck to your dimensions.

Head over to the Pickups and wiring forum for questions about the sustainiac, you'll probably get more replies there, oh and try a search first in case there's some hidden wisdom lurking in some old topics
