Ibanez RG550 serial identification help

Considering picking up my 2nd rg550 today. The guy claims its an '87 in his post, then emails me he is not sure the year. It's a good price so im considering checking it out. He provided me with the serial number P918449. Any idea what this serial could mean? Trying to identify if its a fake or not and any help would be greatly appreciated.

The P should or may be an F and the first 9 means 1989.

I was under the impression that all 550's were made in Japan. After some research I found that P could stand for the Peerless factory in Pusan, Korea. I tried googling it and only came up with Busan? Were any early rg's made in korea?
