Re: Ibanez RGT6EX (just bought one)

arm holder is different on EP2. it has no bushings. it relies on the friction of the arm itself against the insert. there is a small allen screw at the back of the trem, though, which can be adjusted (to varying degrees of success) to increase the friction.

the overall geometry is different, too. the EP2 is physically shorter than the EP. so i doubt you could simply swap the saddles over.

Re: Ibanez RGT6EX (just bought one)

Yeah I was looking at some pics of the 2 trems, side by side and the Edge Pro II does look shorter in length, the lack of bushings could be fixeed by machining a couple of rings into the trem arm then fitting teflon rings, however thats not my primary concern with this trem, its the lack of stainless steel inserts on the saddles, but I suppose the main benefit of those is to preserve the life of the trem, when 'new' it probably doesnt assist with sustain over the 'non-insert' EdgeProII, and I guess that if I was mad about sustain I wouldnt have opted for a trem!
Just hope its better build that the Kprean built S470DXQM I bought last year, the neck just wasnt right, but I am picky, I had to go through 2 JS1200's before finding one that had actually been processed by a geniune QC check at the factory, and dont ask me about the 7 string RG1527's...blimey guvner!

Ibanez RGT6EX (just bought one)

.. but it wont be here for a day or two.

When I saw the specs, EMG's with through neck I just had to get one, even if it is MIK :-/

Has anyone else tried one yet. Whats the difference between the Edge Pro II and the 'Edge Pro', other than the metal 'sound chip' as Ibanez call it on each saddle? If thats the only difference on the trem what are the chances of getting a set of Edge Pro saddles and installing them?

Thanks guys,
Chris

Re: Ibanez RGT6EX (just bought one)

i dont think the edge pro and edge pro2 are compatible jsut by swapping teh saddles

these 2 trem have a slightly different feel
each with its own chacteristics

Post pics man, I have been gassing for the fixed bridge version but being more expensive than a Prestige RG1570 is a big no no for me.

It should have been cheaper since it is a Korean axe.

Re: Ibanez RGT6EX (just bought one)

Hi,

It has just arrived, will post some pics when I get home this afternoon. For a MIK guitar the fit and finish seems to be very good (wow!), the black paintwork is slightly metallic, the trem and pickups and neck all seem to be perfectly in line and the neck & frets are straight thank god. The neck has an off-white binding round it which looks ok. The back of the neck is painted as per the body, not ideal I know but at least the paintwork is even and with no defects of blems. Strings need replacing as they have a very slight surface rust in places, action a little high as normal for Ibanez - my JS1200 had a really high action! Cant wait to plug her in now and hear those EMG scream! I know a lot of you guys hate EMGs but I think that everyone who appreciated metal should have at least one guitar fitted with them! The nearest other Ibanez with similar specs is a J custom RG8320 at 200,000 yen from some Jap shops (£980 + taxes etc) and I can't get one in the UK anyway so this will do for now, and if I scratch it or drop it then I wont cry too much....

Re: Ibanez RGT6EX (just bought one)

hmmm I couldnt wait another 3 hours so out came the keeley type modded DS-1 and a practise amp... and oh yes, it works very well indeed... great if youre a pinched harmonics addict like me! [Although I found it harder to get a good flutter effect from the trem compared to the Edge Pro]. Will plug it into the stack later...

Re: Ibanez RGT6EX (just bought one)

to be frank, i m actually a little disappointed at the extreme series, u can grab a korean made neck thru like a rgt42dx and compare...the rgt42dx seems to be better in finish and feel...sure the extremes got a good stock config, but rgt42dx can change to emgs pretty easy...other then the battery box

Re: Ibanez RGT6EX (just bought one)

I thought about that but I've sometimes found in the past that EMG pickups and Ibanez type pickups have very slightly different spacings between the left and right fixing pins, and then theres the thing with mounting a battery in a secure and tidy manner.

Re: Ibanez RGT6EX (just bought one)

Two things I've discovered, the first is that the Edge Pro II and the Edge pro seem to be the same size and the routing on the body to accomodate the trem is the same size.. although need to double check with a digital vernier tomorrow.. so an easy trem swap might be possible, nice!! That's the good part. The bad part is that I've discovered the little fault (you know the one, that tiny fault almost every Ibanez has - somewhere, somehow when you look hard and long enough you'll find it!), a hairline crack in the clearcote, luckily it only 1mm long and runs out from the slot cut for the selector switch, not really enough to warrant it defective I guess but I'll let the supplier know just in case it suddenly grows overnight!

.. however, regardless of this almost anal attention to detail, it sounds fantastic through a couple of cranked DSL100's and an MPX-1....
