Ibanez S series - A potential Best Seller?

I was playing an S series Guitar the other day (S470DX) and couldn't help thinking to myeslf, this is one sexy guitar with a lush trem sytem and a great neck. The wierdest thing was it wasn't even prestige and felt better to me than an RG 1570.

My thought is that if advertised better and developed further the S series could eventually outstrip and outsell the RG series.

My only problem with them at the moment is the 2 fret difference (22).
If given the attention the RG line is given there could eventually be some super cool 24 fret, neck-through bueatys out there one day. All Ibanez need to do is realise the line's potential.

Any thoughts?

Well, I'd prefer an S over an RG, but actually the first is too much of a light-weight for me, the latter, well, too edgy (please ignore that I am playing an Artcore ).

There definatly is potential in the S-Series... but one thing I never understood is the mess about two missing frets... that's one Single Note, go and bend it

I slightly Agree with you on the weight issue, but I suppose theres a SZ series for a reason. At the same time It wouldn't hurt to go and add some more bulk to a few of them....

This is goana have me perplexed for ages

the S needs a new ambassador to push it through. IMO since Frank Gambale left the company, the S became a spectre.

I really hate the S, and I automatically ignore bands that have a player who uses a S. I really hold a grudge against those things. I tried some once. Not only was I appalled by the tacky "custom made" inlay but that edge on the body is so thin that playing with the damn thing on your lap is downright uncomfortable after 30 seconds or so, not to mention the plastic sound. Being the proud owner of a Maxxas, I have no respect for its derivates or lesser brethren...
I'm really interested in the Zerorocker, though

I can imagine you hate the S-Series because of the things mentioned above, but ignoring bands because of a S-playing-guitarist is plain bull. It's just like saying you hate Volkswagen, and then ignore every Skoda car around (there's a VW engine in it IIRC). I do not agree.

I own 3 S-series guitars, all equipped with moses graphite necks, LSR roller nuts and Steinberger 40:1 gearless, locking tuners. I don't have to use the fine tuners at all because I can just use the steinberger tuners and ther is no slippage at all. These things stay in tune better than any other floating trem guitar I have ever played. I have one of them equipped with a sustainiac system as well and it ROCKS!! If you haven't tried the ZR trem you are really missing out!! It stays in tune WAY better than a Floyd type guitar.

Just got a Vigier with a trem that boasts ballbearings. And I don't like RGs either.

Nope...
a) it's called the JEMsite
b) I don't hate RGs like I hate the S series, I simply consider them stripped down Jems, and I already have a couple of Jems. There are great RGs out there, one of my pupils 's even got one, let alone the J-customs.
c) just don't expect me to buy one
d) I expect you to like Jems as well but I'm not saying you should get one
e) doing the quote-game with n00bs is a hoot
