IBANEZ S470/EMG pickups/VLX91 switch and a stereo jackplug!!
Hi guys,
I have been trying to wire in some emgs to my ibanez s470 and it is proving to be an absolute nightmare. I can't seem to find any information about the parts i need because i have had to modify the standard EMG wiring diagrams, You are all my last try before i send the guitar to the manufacturer to get it re fitted. Please help me!!
I enclose a link to the diagram in it's present form. This is on ebay because i don't have my own webhosting.

Unfortunately this dumb software wont allow me to put in the link in its entirity so to view....you have to copy the text to your webbrowser and delete the spaces between the
e B a y I S A P I (sorry for this inconvenience) If this does not work for whatever reason go to
http://www.ebay.co.uk and search for "S470 diagram" and it is the only item there.
Please supersize the images and save them to your computer so you can draw in the correctly coloured leads....it's easy enough to edit them in photoshop. any completed diagrams should be sent to

I am totally mystified by the way the Ibanez 5 position
pickup selector switch works. This be the VLX91/otax AAARRRGHHH!! This is the only selector that will fit in my guitar because obviously the S series Ibanez have been slimmed down to extremes and there is very little room to play with. I wish to wire it in a very basic configuration:
Pickup selector should be: Neck(emg81)/ Neck-Middle(emg81-SA)/Middle(emgSA)/Middle-Bridge(emgSA-85)/Bridge(emg85)
I have one Volume pot and One Tone pot
I also am not sure where to put the wires leading to the output jack. Obviously emgs are active and there is need for a third wire - my ibanez came standard with a stereo jack plug, but i don't know which pin corresponds with which signal!!! There is a BIG pin, a MEDIUM pin, and a SMALL sized pin. Please help me with this problem because i'm playing soon and need the guitar up and running.
I enclose a diagram on ebay (feel free to purchase!lol) to show you roughly what i know already (and a picture of my guitar from ibanez catalogue 1994) (which ain't much - sorry lol)
What does a HOT signal mean? and where does it come from? is it from the pickups?
Apologies for the long posting, but i figure there MUST be someone else in this situation that could benefit from this, because i cant find out any information anywhere!!
Many thanks for your time,
Alan
