Ibanez s470dx

I just purchased this "new" 2 months ago at a guitar shop. This thing plays like butter, nice and thin and the wizard II neck is unbelieve-able, I was wondering wat i should watch out for with this guitar in the future, any problems regarding the powersound humbuckers or problems changing pick ups, trem issues or anything like that, thanks guys

Re: Ibanez s470dx

I have an S470DX and I agree that it's a very awesome guitar. I have an issue with the trem, but if your guitar is a 2005-2006 model then you won't have the same issue that I'm having. As far as pickups go, the only problem that I ran into was the stock switch that came with the guitar. It seems that your pickup wiring options are very limited with this stock switch. I installed Dimarzios into the guitar and disconnected the single coil but I was unable to wire the guitar in the same fashion as the RG321 with dual humbuckers. But aside from that, the pickups seem to fit in the cavity just fine and the bridge pickup in particular (Dimarzio D-Sonic) sounds phenomenal.

Hehe.... in my case, there's not enough room for more electronics (pots switches sustainers active stuff so on...) in that thin body! You can't even fit a pushpull pot in the tone pot position!

In anycase... great axe. Its thin but it don't sound its size.

Re: Ibanez s470dx

I'd have to agree with that. I am still blown away by how this guitar sounds given how small it is

Re: Ibanez s470dx

I have a s470dx as well. The tremolo arm holder broke. I went to the dealer near me and he had a brand new s47o with the same part also broken. Still waiting for parts. It is a very nice playing guitar. I changed the bridge pickup to a tone zone it sounds much better, alot more bassy kick.

Re: Ibanez s470dx

The problem I have with mine has nothing to do with the arm holder. I apparently have an 04 model which is before they instituted the "manually adjusted zero point system." Mine is apparently missing the piece that turns the screw that adjusts the spring tension so right now I have the trem blocked. I tried contacting Ibanez about this and even had my local dealer try and they haven't gotten back to either of us about it.

Re: Ibanez s470dx

I own a s470dxqm too, in charoal brown quilted maple. Anyway there is buzzing in my tremolo, how do i fix that? Its the part where u need to loosen to adjust the intonation, (the screw thingy that stop the saddles more moving front and back?). i tried tighten it but it still buzz, im sure its that sport, cos when i use my allen key and hold it one, it doesnt buzz.

Hehe... I'll absolutely second that.

I just put a Double Edge Lo-Pro and the Ctrl-X-Electronics in my '00 Japanese S470BK... I used a pushpull pot in the volume-position as a power-switch for the active electronics.

It's been totally not funny to get all the stuff including a 9v-battery in that tiny space.

My dream is a line6 variax curcuit board and a sustainer in a saber-body... But I guess this will be impossible.

:-(

Re: Ibanez s470dx

I don't think that it'll be impossible, but you'd probably have to route out some more of the body to make room for it all.

Re: Ibanez s470dx

you can plonk the battery in the trem cavity.... you will have space since your's is pre ZR trem...

For my S520EX, i installed (drill them holes myself! ) 2 mini toggles for coil split and phase, installed a varitone in place of the tone pot. When you open up my electronics cavity, its choke full. Well, maybe I could squeeze just 1 more mini toggle in there... but for what?!

I think the Caps on the Variax-board are too big... The body is not thick enough to allow a deep enough cavity.

Re: Ibanez s470dx

that one definately needs a PU change. If I remember they come with INFs. (eww -_-). They don't play too bad though for a guitar at the price.
